The Human Resources Manager is responsible for the development and oversight of Human Resources practices and facilitates a collaborative environment among all departments and locations. Essential duties include but are not limited to:
  • Remains up to date with federal and state employment laws and regulations in addition to HR best practices.
  • Provides staff development through internal training programs through excellent verbal and written communication appropriately tailored for different audiences and circumstances.
  • Conduct a comprehensive and consistent onboarding and orientation process.
  •  Recruit for open positions, screen applications/resumes, conduct or assist with interviews, conduct reference and background checks and complete all necessary employment paperwork.
  • Maintain up-to-date labor posters
  • Conduct open enrollment & benefit fairs
  • Handle unemployment insurance, disability claims and related paperwork
  • Negotiates and administers the 401(k) retirement plan and health plan in compliance with the summary plan descriptions
  • Ability to write policies and procedures that are consistent with the company’s culture and with legal and regulatory requirements. Maintain an up-to-date employee handbook, manuals, and policies. 
  • Ensures company’s compliance with governing agencies, including: OSHA, EEOC, OFCCP, FMCSA, and DOT, including the reporting of OSHA 300, EEO and VEVRA, and AAP.
  • Involved in conflict resolution and administering corrective action/disciplinary actions.
  • Review all invoices related to company benefits and HR related matters, ensuring accuracy, and making corrections where necessary. Implement cost controls when required. 
  • Act as the main point of contact for all internship and apprenticeship programs. 
  • Works closely with the payroll department and assists with any payroll-related matters

Competencies: 
  • Strong computer skills (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with applicant tracking software, talent management software, and HRIS/payroll systems preferred.
  • The ability to establish strong interpersonal connections and trust with managers and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required; strong presentation skills and the ability to run meetings required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills appropriately tailored for different audiences and circumstances.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills with a metrics-driven approach to solutions.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have any supervisory responsibility.  Work Environment: This position operates within an office building and is shared with other office personnel.  Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organizations facilities.
Position Type/ Hours:This position is a full-time position with expected hours of 7:30 AM- 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.  Travel Requirements: Must be available to travel domestically with overnight stays for business purposes when necessary. Required Education and Experience: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a relevant discipline is preferred. Extensive experience in the human resource field may be considered in lieu of the educational degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience resulting in the development of a strong HR Generalist skillset; PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting multiple operating companies and multiple office locations.
  • HR experience with relevant industry experience (preferably construction, engineering or manufacturing).
 Additional Qualifications: 
  • Strong understanding of state and federal employment labor law (EEO, FMLA, FLSA, ADEA, ADA, Human Rights, ERISA).
  • Understanding of the Davis-Bacon Act and experience administering prevailing wages are desirable.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a small HR team.
