We are seeking an outgoing, San Francisco-based bilingual Community Connector to lead programs in Cantonese for our Chinese neighbors. The position will include both online and in-person activities for a total of 30 hours per week.   The ideal Chinese Community Connector:

  • Can travel easily among San Francisco neighborhoods with supplies and program materials. Having a car and being willing to use it for work (with reimbursement for mileage) is a plus. 
  • Is fluent in Cantonese and English, including reading and writing in Chinese. The ability to also communicate in Mandarin is a plus. 

The Chinese Community Connector will report to CLC’s Chinese Programs Manager and will be part of both the Chinese Language team and the Community Connectors team. Both teams meet regularly to share ideas, keep learning, and support one another. There are currently active Chinese Connector programs in San Francisco’s Crocker-Amazon and Cayuga neighborhoods, and we have funding to add Chinese programming in the Inner Sunset.   All CLC staff must be willing to wear multiple hats and thrive in a culture that places a high priority on collaboration and team support. CLC is a values-driven organization, and team members share a passion for recognizing and promoting the skills and talents of older adults and people with disabilities.   Essential Responsibilities: At the core of a Connector’s responsibilities is creating a welcoming environment that provides opportunities for seniors and people with disabilities to remain active and engaged in their neighborhoods. The methods that we employ changed during the pandemic and continue to shift as we’re able to meet safely in person. The ideal candidate can be flexible, and is comfortable with a combination of virtual, phone, mail, and in-person methods for building connections.  Program Management Ongoing:  
  • Regularly provide attendance and other reporting as required to meet our funders’ requirements. 
  • Reach out to existing participants by phone, WeChat, email, and regular mail 
  • Serve as a Connector/Host for selected Zoom activities each week 
  • Work with the Chinese Program Manager to design new activities to meet neighbors' needs and interests. 
  • Maintain phone and contact lists. 
In-Person: 
  • Organize and maintain a range of gatherings where neighbors can share activities, including educational, social, and exercise. Base the offerings on the wants and needs of participants. Possible items include: 
  • Group Exercise  
  • Healthy Aging, Emergency Preparedness, Writing, and other workshops 
  • Other weekly and/or monthly activities as decided by the advisory group, as time allows 
  • Quarterly Potlucks, Yard & Bake Sales, Field Trips, Photo Walks, and other Workshops 
  • Open and close shared neighborhood space for activities.  
Community Outreach: 
  • Establish/maintain Relationships with key neighborhood organizations in discussion with the Community Living Campaign where appropriate.  
  • Maintain a monthly calendar of activities. 
  • Outreach to neighbors through email, phone calls, flyers, site bulletin boards, newsletters, social media, neighborhood organizations, library, etc. 
  • Contribute photos, updates, and other content to CLC’s social media, website, and funders.  
  • Update language-specific outreach material as needed. 
Collaborate and Learn with Other CLC Staff: 
  • Attend CLC Connector meetings and trainings as available. 
  • Attend CLC Chinese-Language meetings and trainings as available. 
  • Complete training on Elder Abuse Prevention and Reporting, Positive Workplaces, and California Department of Aging Security Awareness Training each year. Participate in other trainings as requested. 

More About Community Living Campaign:  In addition to Neighborhood Networks, CLC also helps neighbors gain computer skills, find ways to contribute through job placements at local nonprofits and advocate for themselves and others. CLC also leads citywide initiatives to promote digital access and employment opportunities and advocates for selected age- and disability-related issues that are too big for any individual, organization, or neighborhood to solve alone.  CLC is participant-focused and driven, able to shift quickly to meet evolving needs on both a neighborhood and larger systemic level. We bring a positive, kind, and can-do spirit to strengthening our communities through the power of older adults and people with disabilities.  Location: The Chinese Community Connector will work in neighborhoods with Community Connector networks, at the CLC office (1663 Mission Street in San Francisco), and from home. The Connector may hold some outdoor activities in Connector neighborhoods and will be on-site at a community location at least twice per week. Access to a car is a plus.   Compensation: This is a part-time hourly employee position for 30 hours per week at $24.50 per hour. Benefits include healthcare and dental insurance, paid leave, an annual contribution to retirement, and a flexible spending account option for out-of-pocket medical, dependent care, and commuting costs.
