We are in search of an Upper Elementary Chinese Homeroom Teacher who is enthusiastic about collaborating with our seasoned faculty to further advance effective Chinese immersion teaching methodologies throughout the academic year.

Our new team member will collaborate with cross-grade level Chinese and English partner teachers and will have access to a wealth of professional development opportunities. Within a robust curricular framework supported by Chinese and English program directors, the candidate will enjoy significant autonomy in crafting the classroom curriculum. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating a positive intellectual, emotional, and social environment within the classroom where every child feels valued and a sense of belonging.

  • Communicating effectively, promptly, and proactively with families.
  • Preparing assessments, grades, and progress reports in accordance with school procedures.
  • Participating in Teacher Collaboration Time (TCT) meetings to plan and discuss pedagogical strategies with the Chinese Program Director and division meetings during the term of employment.
  • Engaging in school-wide cultural events and collaborating with cross-division grade level teams.
  • Progressing toward and eventually obtaining certification to administer and evaluate the ACTFL OPI and WPT assessments.
  • Working closely with Chinese Language Support (CLS) teachers to monitor student progress in Chinese and establish individual academic goals.
  • Supervising student field trips and occasionally chaperoning global programs.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School and the Chinese Program Director.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin.
  • Experience teaching upper elementary Mandarin in an immersion setting.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Mandarin.
  • A desire and capability to work collaboratively.

As the nation's pioneering Mandarin immersion school for Preschool through 8th grade, CAIS is committed to maintaining its leadership in immersion education.
