The Automation Solutions Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automation systems to optimize manufacturing processes. This role primarily involves architecting solutions in support of sales. This includes collaborating with various vendors and cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement, recommended subsystems and calculating the associated Return-On-Investment.

  • Provide innovative solutions to customers by identifying and responding promptly to their needs.
  • Analyze inputs and create User Requirements in order to determine feasibility of potential solutions.
  • Architect systems from sketches and/or verbal conversations and support the hand-over to the engineering design team to ensure the intended architecture is well designed.
  • Perform initial engineering calculations with respect to cycle time, strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to supporting architecture decisions.
  • Establish long term business relationships with vendors and customers through direct, person to person interaction.
  • Develop those relationships through consultive selling that assesses and solves their application needs using IPS integration capabilities.
  • Plan and perform customer sales calls, assess customer needs, prepare customer quotes, and follow up on all related activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering / Robotics/ Mechatronics or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 15 years designing complex engineering solutions that included hardware and software
  • Minimum 7 years in automation design in domains where robotics and mechanical fixtures have been integrated.
  • Demonstrated problem solving capabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of automation technologies and control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.
  • Travel estimated 30-50%
