Attorney I - CA Dept. of Insurance - San Francisco

Under general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel, Policy Approval Bureau (PAB), the Attorney I reviews and analyzes various life and disability insurance policy forms and related documents for compliance with statutory and regulatory standards. The Attorney I interprets statutes and regulations pertaining to these various types of life and disability insurance policies in response to inquiries from the public, insurance industry, legislators, and other Department personnel. The Attorney I analyzes and drafts regulations and legislation, completes special project assignments, and makes recommendations to the Assistant Chief Counsel and to CDI Executive Staff. Occasional travel may be required within and/or outside California, which may include overnight stays.

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.

  • Applicants must have active membership in The California State Bar before they will be eligible for appointment.
  • This recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies in this location.
  • This office is currently located in San Francisco but will be relocating to Oakland Fall 2020.
