Judicial Staff Attorney III

This is an advanced journey level professional attorney classification responsible for performing legal research, preparing tentative decisions and rulings, and assisting judges in researching and resolving legal questions.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct legal research and provide legal consultation for Court judicial officers and staff
- Review court documents and filings for compliance with legal mandates
- Perform related work as assigned
- Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law
- Six (6) years of increasingly responsible practice of law in either civil and/or criminal legal practice, and/or professional level legal research experience in support of the judicial branch
- Valid Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Court's vehicle insurance policy
- Current active membership and good standing with the State Bar of California
- Competitive compensation package
- Medicare paid at a rate of 1.45% by both the Court and the employee
- Sick leave accrued at a rate of 0.0500 per hour worked based on a maximum of 80 hours per pay period
- Vacation time accrued based on years of service, capped at 320 hours
- Health insurance available at a shared cost
- Vision and dental insurance available for the employee and eligible dependents at the employee's expense
- Basic life insurance of $20,000.00 paid by the Court
- Long-term disability insurance paid by the Court
- Worker's compensation paid by the Court
- State disability insurance paid by the employee at a 1% rate up to $101,636 in wages
- Deferred compensation (457(b) plan) available at the employee's expense
- Employee assistance program paid by the Court
- Tuition reimbursement up to $1,200 per calendar year, subject to pre-approval and availability of funds
- Step I: Applications will be reviewed to identify candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and have submitted required documents
- Step II: Eligible candidates will be referred to step II in the selection process
- Step III: Candidates who are successful in Step II may be placed on the eligibility list
