About the Opportunity

As a member of the Network Teaching & Learning Team, the Senior Director of Inclusive Learning will work closely with school Principals, Instructional leadership, the Data Team, and Operations teams across the network. They will lead network growth and expansion of inclusive learning structures, protocols, and practices. The Senior Director will work with Principals to translate their academic visions into differentiated learning models by coordinating and overseeing services for all special populations, including students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, Multilingual Learners (MLLs), and the recipients of any Multi-tiered System of Supports, (MTSS.) The Senior Director will coach the school-based Directors of Inclusive Learning, including facilitating a recurring community of practice, conducting co-observations of instruction, IEP meetings, and family engagement events. Additionally, the Senior Director will be responsible for strategically coordinating external partnerships and outside agencies for students receiving services to maximize learning time while ensuring that schools are in compliance. This leader will have a vision for academic excellence rooted in anti-racist pedagogy that supports our mission to prepare students with the skills, strength of character and emotional well-being to excel academically, lead in their communities, and realize their best possible selves.

  • You demonstrate maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and “roll up my sleeves” attitude
  • You have a minimum of three years management at the district/network level and/or at least five years management at the school-based level focusing on special education
  • You have an ability to show a track record of results of moving student achievement through other adults for students with IEPs and/or MLLs
  • You are a strong professional development leader with experience designing and facilitating high-quality professional development
  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree, or higher, in Special Education, Multilingual Education or related field preferred ( Master’s preferred but not required)
  • You have appropriate NYS certifications in Special Education
  • You have extensive familiarity with NY City, State, and Federal policy as it pertains to students with disabilities and multilingual learners

What Success Looks Like

  • Embodiment and effective modeling of our core values for students to exhibit and practice them
  • Oversee PreK-12 accountability for all compliance-based aspects of academic 504 plans, (IEPs,) and multilingual learning, including: coordinating all related services, testing accommodations, assistive technology, progress reporting cycles, preparing for and holding all initial, annual, and re-evaluation IEP meetings, writing IEPs, Manifestation Determination Review meetings, MLL identification procedure, Language Proficiency Team meetings, and post-secondary planning.
  • Maintain the existing accountability systems, and create new system as necessary, to ensure school Inclusive Learning Deans and Directors and staff execute the best practice of co-teaching, consistently track academic IEP goals, collaborate with peers to create cohesive and comprehensive Teacher Narrative Reports, maintain consistent communication with families, provide all mandated accommodations during instruction and assessment, and execute mandated or supplemental Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Directly manage all escalated individual student or family needs, including Manifestation Determination Review meetings, testifying at Impartial Hearings, and deferrals to central team offices for placement in alternative settings.
  • Coordinate and manage a strategy for the professional development of Inclusive Learning teachers, MLL specialist, intervention specialists, school-based leaders, as well as General Education Teachers and school culture teams in collaboration with the Network Teaching & Learning Team and the Senior Director of School Culture.
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Leadership Team, Department Chairs, Multilingual Learning Team, and Teaching Residency program to align on the vision for Inclusive instruction across all classrooms, that includes high-quality differentiation, co-teaching, Multi-tiered Systems of Supports, (MTSS,) supports for MLLS, and lesson planning that leverages the principles of Universal Design for Learning.
  • Lead analysis of quantitative and qualitative sources of information to ensure an equitable and inclusive school experience for all students. Data sources include: observations, review of educational records, behavior and restorative support data, review of outside evaluations, internal assessments and diagnostics,vocational interviews, conferences with teachers, family interviews, and related service provider reports.
  • Develop and maintain clear and informative school quality reporting metrics to share reports regularly with appropriate stakeholders that will generate discussions for data driven decisions about curriculum, instruction, school culture, and assessment practices that improve student achievement.
  • Plan and lead at least four family workshops during the school year on topics germane to inclusion and equity.
  • Partners with the Talent Team to develop a human capital strategy and pipeline that will ensure a strong pool of SpEd and MLL certified teachers, with content expertise, year over year.
  • Maintain, update, and audit existing record systems to ensure accurate per pupil billing, testing accommodations, IEP meeting timelines, ICT programming, and related service schedules.
