Description: What you'll be doing

The Director of Annual Giving plays a pivotal role in cultivating relationships with current parents across the JK-12 while strategically advancing fundraising efforts to support the organization's mission and goals. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a dynamic professional to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students, parents, and the South Bay community.

The Director of Annual Giving is expected to actively participate in a collaborative employee culture that is committed to being at the leading edge of JK - 12th grade education. The Director of Annual Giving reports to the Chief Institutional Advancement Officer and is part of a highly collaborative team of advancement and enrollment professionals all tasked with filling and funding the school. This individual works with highly confidential, personalized and proactive processes that hold families from the Admission experience through their tenure as current families and then into a deepening alum experience. Interpersonal skills, networking, attention to detail, and discretion are of utmost importance.

The Director of Annual Giving has primary oversight of all advancement events and provides organizational support for all annual fundraising activities and reporting. The Director of Annual Giving creates meaningful ways for current families to engage with and support Hillbrook School. The Director of Annual Giving manages the day-to-day operations of the Hillbrook Annual Fund and annual Benefit and assumes responsibility for implementing a comprehensive plan to cultivate, solicit, and steward stakeholders.

The Director of Annual Giving is based at our JK-8 campus in Los Gatos with attendance expected periodically on our Upper School campus in San Jose. The events-focused nature of advancement work necessitates that this role be available for evening and occasional weekend events.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement Hillbrook's annual giving program (Annual Fund, Benefit, other fundraising events) in close collaboration with the Chief Institutional Advancement Officer.
  • Collaborate closely on all fundraising priorities with the Director Capital Campaign and Alum Engagement and the Advancement team to ensure Hillbrook families have a holistic and deeply meaningful experience engaging with and supporting the school.
  • Collaborate with the entire Office of Advancement and Enrollment team in fulfilling the goals and objectives outlined by school leadership.
  • Partner with the marketing and communication team to publish our Annual Report and develop compelling materials for fundraising appeals.
  • Plan and implement the school's Annual Fund in close collaboration with the Chief Institutional Advancement Officer; tracking all donations through the gift process in coordination with Finance team.
  • Plan and implement fundraising for Flexible Tuition and Reach Beyond Scholars through major gifts, the Benefit, and other appeals; tracking all donations through the gift process in coordination with Finance team.
  • Coordinate and implement donor cultivation and recognition events, such as the Visionary Circle reception, Friends Circle reception, and Grandparents/Special Friends Day.
  • Maintain database of prospects and donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations that can be used for all Hillbrook fundraising campaigns and activities.
  • Plan and implement targeted fundraising campaigns, including direct mail, email, phone, and digital strategies in coordination with the Advancement team.
  • Serve as primary liaison and coordinate closely with the Hillbrook Parent's Association.
  • Other projects, as assigned by the Chief Institutional Advancement Officer.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Three or more years of relevant professional experience in fundraising or transferable experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A commitment to anti-racism and demonstrated skill designing equitable and inclusive experiences.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, especially as related to event management and gift processing.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, particularly Google Docs and Sheets, and utilizing fundraising database software such as Raiser's Edge, GiveSmart, iWave, and similar.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to articulate and explain complex issues to stakeholders responsible for making informed and effective strategic decisions.
  • Attention to detail for guiding gifts through transactions in collaboration with the finance team.
  • Must be able to deal effectively and politely with people from all types of backgrounds and experiences and in all types of difficult or challenging situations.
  • Natural networking instincts to build and nurture relationships with all types of constituent groups.
  • Ability to work in a collegial, collaborative environment and to develop the necessary trust and credibility to work with a broad range of constituents.

Preferred:

  • Mandarin/Spanish proficiency is a plus.
