With more than 2.1 million email subscribers and 13 different newsletter editions, InsideHook is one of the fastest-growing lifestyle publishers in the country.

About HoopsHQ

In partnership with InsideHook, HoopsHQ is set to launch in Fall 2024 as a paywalled media platform offering exclusive, in-depth coverage of men’s and women’s college basketball. We are committed to reaching our audience through innovative and progressive strategies across email, web, and social channels, centered upon in-depth reporting for college basketball fans.

About the Role

We are looking for a strategic leader to drive the growth of our subscription business at Insidehook and HoopsHQ. (The former free-to-users, the latter behind a paywall.) In this role, you will focus on expanding our audience, increasing subscriber engagement, and maximizing revenue through data-driven and creative approaches. You’ll work cross-functionally with the editorial, marketing, and product teams, reporting directly to the CEO. The Audience and Growth Manager will play a crucial part in driving the long-term success of InsideHook and HoopsHQ, with the latter representing our first foray into scaled consumer revenue.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the CEO and other members of the Leadership team to develop a comprehensive acquisition and retention strategy for growing and retaining paid (Hoops HQ) and free subscribers (InsideHook).
  • Strategize across acquisition, retention, and engagement to identify opportunities for increasing net subscriber growth and contributing to ARPU (average revenue per user).
  • Identify and leverage new audience discovery channels, including search, third-party platforms, Reddit, and Apple News, to increase visibility and drive subscriber growth across both InsideHook and HoopsHQ.
  • Design and implement experiments to optimize growth through user flow, promotional offers, introductory pricing, and subscription tiers, while maintaining high customer lifetime value.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to ensure coverage is generating quality audience growth that converts to paid subscribers over time.
  • Partner with the marketing team to execute growth campaigns from concept to launch (e.g., March Madness).
  • Coordinate with the engineering team to ensure the product roadmap aligns with subscription revenue and growth targets.
  • Build and update driver-based subscription forecast models, continuously refining assumptions and targets with the Leadership team.
  • Monitor subscription KPIs and prepare management-ready reports on business performance; maintain analytical dashboards to track real-time progress
  • Design feedback loops for editorial teams to optimize production against subscription growth goals
  • Provide monthly reporting on email performance, subscriber growth, and overall audience engagement, and report specific analysis and action items to the editorial team
  • Track and report email analytics to the editorial team, ensuring content aligns with audience preferences
  • Analyze Braze automated email sections and optimize performance
  • Oversee the Braze ESP platform relationship, focusing on deliverability and performance in collaboration with key contacts
  • Ongoing monitoring of email deliverability, domain reputation, and subscriber retention rates
  • Execute and optimize paid, earned, and organic newsletter acquisition strategies, such as Facebook/Keywee, sweepstakes, and referral programs
  • Optimize subscriber onboarding processes, including surveys and welcome series, to improve user experience
  • Support distribution strategies that expand the reach of our content across multi-platform channels, including email, social media, SEO, and partnerships

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in growth, product management, or finance, preferably in a subscription-based media business
  • Experience working directly with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, designers, editorial and analysts
  • Proven track record of driving subscriber growth, revenue, and retention through creative and data-driven strategies
  • Expertise in developing and updating financial models and conducting analysis to inform business decisions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to drive decision-making
  • Experience with a variety of audience discovery channels (e.g., search, third-party platforms, Reddit, Apple News) and a proven ability to grow audiences by utilizing these channels strategically.
  • Experience with web analytics platforms. GA4, Parse.ly, etc.

  • Expertise in working with an ESP; experience with Braze is a plus
  • Experience with A/B testing and growth experimentation
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams
  • Ability to balance individual accountability and a collaborative spirit in pursuit of company goals
