Cowan Systems, LLC is a national truckload carrier that specializes in providing high quality dedicated fleet services for companies requiring first-rate performance. Cowan Systems offers dedicated fleet services which provide a customized transportation package designed to meet the specific needs of the shipper, such as specialized equipment, strict timetables, and custom reporting. Our 100% supply chain solution includes local and long-haul trucking services, brokerage, warehousing, and driver leasing.

Cowan’s Intermodal Agents Division is comprised of a network of agents and owner operators with interchange agreements to partner with major steamship lines and railroads across North America. The owner operators in the agent's division primarily focus on drayage services, which moves containers in and out of ports or rail yards to shippers and receivers, though they are also able to move freight much longer distances. Our Agent Division is based in Baltimore, MD but has terminals throughout the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, and Texas.

Job Summary:

This position will report to the Vice President of Agent Corporate Development and will be an integral part of the Agent Division, providing essential operations support to ensure smooth and efficient operations. This role supports Cowan agent owner operators by providing back-office administration, analysis, and reporting of data.

Monday-Friday 8:30AM-5PM

Job Duties:

  • Provide exceptional customer service support to our agent owner operators by identifying, assessing, and fulfilling customers’ needs to achieve satisfaction.
  • Manage all account communication professionally to include addressing issues with service and providing appropriate solutions to resolve in a timely manner.
  • Support Operations, Finance, and Senior Management with all aspects of the Agent Division; to include onboarding, administration, performance reporting, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Processing of owner operator settlements, verifying timesheets for accuracy, and assisting with the weekly commission process, ensuring all records are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Assist with managing Cowan’s agent fuel card program, fraud prevention and reporting, tolling program, and fuel tax reporting.
  • This position will require working with various departments, and oversight of specific functions essential to meeting the requirements and service expectations of the business and our agent owner operators.
  • Prepare and develop regular reports to support management and recommend actions by analyzing and interpreting data.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ work experience, administrative experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, associate degree preferred.
  • Previous intermodal/logistical or transportation industry experience preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt and work efficiently in a collaborative, rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to structure, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer keyboard, and speak on the telephone. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Able to travel as needed (range: 10% to 25%).
