OFFICE RECEPTIONIST/HEALTH ASSISTANT

Anticipated position start date: ASAP

This position is responsible for opening the school front office no later than 7:15 a.m.

As an Office Receptionist/Health Assistant, you are good at: Fulfilling the mission of the Catholic school by working with the principal and assistant to the principal/registrar in the management of the front office and health room. You are good at multitasking phone lines, in-person drop-ins, and meeting student needs simultaneously. You are courteous, professional, and display excellent customer service and communication as the first point of contact for St. Louis Catholic School.

Job Summary

The Office Receptionist/Health Assistant fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by assisting with general office work and the health needs of students. The Office Receptionist/Health Assistant has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The position is hired and evaluated by the principal.

Essential Duties

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
  • Supports office needs by serving as office receptionist for the school, escorting students and visitors, covering the main telephone operation and volunteer/visitor sign in
  • Maintains current and accurate records according to school policy
  • Assists the registrar with maintaining accurate attendance records
  • Supports the distribution of school orders and inventory as needed
  • Serves as a health advocate for the child and assesses student health needs
  • Utilizes basic physical assessment skills in evaluating injury, illness, or general health status
  • Administers approved prescribed medications as needed
  • Initiates referral and follow-up on relevant health needs of the students, and make appropriate interpretation and distribution of health information
  • Works to assure compliance with regulations on Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Provides administrative support in maintaining all student health files and related documentation
  • Reviews all student immunizations files and communicates with families on all required immunizations and acceptable health care provider documentation
  • Coordinates health screenings as required by Texas State Law and see that follow-up care for the students is provided by their parents
  • Allocates appropriate job functions when needed for supervision of health-screeners
  • Anticipates supply and equipment needs appropriate to maintaining a continuous functional health program
  • Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese/local administration, including attending all Diocesan health meetings
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Serves as a professional representative of the principal and school
  • Communicates effectively with those in the school community
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support the school
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • One year full-time experience in related field

Certifications and Training:

  • Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 60 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
