Outpatient Nutritional Therapy Dietitian is responsible for providing comprehensive nutritional assessments, counseling, and education to patients in an outpatient setting. This role involves creating individualized dietary plans, monitoring patient progress, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to optimize patient health and wellness.

This is a full-time position (40 hours) working Monday - Friday, 9:00am -5:30pm.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES (not limited to):

  • Nutritional Assessment:
    • Conduct thorough nutritional assessments of patients, including evaluating medical history, dietary habits, and laboratory data.
    • Identify nutritional needs and develop personalized dietary plans to address health concerns and goals.
  • Patient Counseling and Education:
    • Provide one-on-one counseling to patients regarding dietary modifications, meal planning, and healthy lifestyle choices.
    • Educate patients on managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease through nutrition.
  • Dietary Plan Development:
    • Design and implement individualized nutrition plans based on patient needs, preferences, and medical conditions.
    • Adjust dietary recommendations as needed based on patient feedback and progress.
  • Monitoring and Follow-Up:
    • Track patient progress and make necessary adjustments to dietary plans to ensure effectiveness.
    • Schedule and conduct follow-up appointments to monitor progress, address concerns, and provide ongoing support.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment plans.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including dietary assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
    • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and documentation standards.
  • Program Development:
    • Develop and implement educational materials and programs to promote nutritional wellness and prevention.
    • Contribute to community outreach and wellness programs as needed.
  • Continuous Learning:
    • Stay current with the latest research, trends, and best practices in nutrition and dietetics.
    • Pursue ongoing professional development opportunities and certifications.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (not limited to):

  1. Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Foods.
  2. Previous experience in dietetics, with one year of clinical dietitian experience preferred.
  3. Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics registration or RD eligible.
  4. Current Certified Dietitian status for Washington State.
  5. Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) level to be completed within three (3) months of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
  2. Ability to push, pull, or lift 25 lbs. occasionally.
  3. Majority of time spent in air-conditioned, well-lit office space doing computer work.
  4. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
