Medical Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant works as part of the medical office team performing those clinical and clerical duties necessary to prepare patients for a visit, and to make appointments when necessary. Duties include telephone answering, gathering patient information and entering in computer, and performing basic clinical skills. The MA is also a member of the health care team and therefore takes part in the delivery of care in accordance with the Patient Centered Medical Home model of care.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Communicates with patient to determine chief complaint, obtains vital signs and prepares patient for examination.
- Ensures patient confidentiality and provides patients with needed information.
- Gathers patient information and records in computer.
- After training, administers injections, immunizations, performs necessary lab and x-ray as ordered by Physician. May NOT give medications ordered by a nurse practitioner. The physician must be present for the assistant to administer medications
- Stocks and maintains exam rooms and other clinic space with necessary equipment and supplies and maintains inventory through requisition process.
- Perform other necessary duties required by the Medical Director or Nursing Director to meet the goal of providing primary health care.
- Perform other necessary duties as required by the community health center to achieve the goal of providing primary health care services.
- Provide patient-centered care that incorporates culturally and linguistically appropriated services.
- Educate patients about health maintenance activities, adoption of healthy behaviors, and support services available in the community.
- Communicate with patient and families about health care issues and the importance of developing self-management goals and healthy behaviors.
- Assist in coordinating seamless transitions of patient care across multiple care settings by using combined expertise of care team members.
- Employ active listening techniques during interactions with patients, families, and team members.
- Utilize quality data to identify process changes that will improve care at the individual patient and population management.
- Use health information systems efficiently to manage and improve care at the individual patient level and system levels and ensure the delivery of timely and accurate information.
- Participate in care team huddles to prepare and coordinate patient care activities.
- Incorporate quality indicators for specific disease states and /or patient variable into patient care plans.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prefer previous experience in health care setting, ideally in an office practice.
- Basic familiarity with routine medical protocol and terminology.
- Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.
- Skills in communication and ability to accept directions and constructive criticism.
- Medical Assistant license in Arkansas.
- Participate in on-going age-related in-service training for patients in various age groups.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness to attend and/or complete continuing education related to this position and/or any other topics as deemed necessary to MDHS.
EVALUATION:
Annual evaluation performed by Director of Nursing.
SALARY POSITION:
The salary for this position is at Grade 3 of the community health center's Salary Scale.
STATUS:
This is a FLSA Exempt position.

This is an ADA negotiable position.
This is a safety sensitive position.
Mid-Delta follows state and federal vaccine recommendations.
