Job Summary: The Injection Molding Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for overseeing and optimizing injection molding processes within a manufacturing environment. This role involves designing, developing, and implementing manufacturing processes, tools, and systems to ensure efficient production of high-quality injection molded components. The Manufacturing Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, improve process capabilities, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in injection molding, process engineering, and a focus on enhancing manufacturing efficiency and product quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Injection Molding Process Optimization:
  • Develop and optimize injection molding processes to achieve production goals, including cycle time, scrap reduction, and part quality improvement.
  • Conduct process validation activities, including IQ/OQ/PQ (Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification, Performance Qualification) and capability studies.
  • Implement scientific molding principles and techniques to enhance process repeatability and consistency.
  1. Tooling and Equipment Design:
  • Collaborate with tooling engineers and external suppliers to design and develop injection molds and tooling solutions.
  • Evaluate tooling designs for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage tooling projects from design concept through fabrication and validation.
  1. New Product Introduction (NPI):
  • Support the NPI process by providing input on design for manufacturability (DFM) and participating in design reviews.
  • Develop and document manufacturing processes, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new products.
  • Coordinate prototype builds and pilot production runs to validate manufacturing processes.
  1. Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing:
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize injection molding processes and reduce waste.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles, such as 5S, Kaizen, and value stream mapping, to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Utilize data analysis and statistical tools to identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
  1. Quality Assurance and Control:
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to establish and maintain quality standards and specifications for injection molded parts.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process-related quality issues.
  • Support quality audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and customer specifications.
  1. Training and Documentation:
  • Provide training and technical support to production personnel on injection molding processes, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation, including process flow diagrams, equipment manuals, and validation reports.
  • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety regulations in all manufacturing activities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in injection molding manufacturing, process engineering, or a similar role.
  • Skills:
    • Strong technical knowledge of injection molding processes, materials, and tooling.
    • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and injection molding simulation tools (e.g., Moldflow).
    • Experience with scientific molding principles and techniques.
    • Knowledge of quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001, TS 16949, ISO 13485) and manufacturing standards.
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
