Assistant Director of College and Career Readiness  

Summary  

Global Kids (GK) educates, inspires, and mobilizes youth to become global citizens who are positively engaged in the world and prepared for their future. We are seeking an individual committed to our mission with experience in Positive Youth Development to manage our College and Career Readiness (CCR) Program. 

 

Position Overview: The Assistant Director will have both administrative leadership and direct service responsibilities, helping youth become college and career-ready.  

 

This position reports to the Sr. Director of Academic Programs.  

 

Program Responsibilities:  

  • Develop creative college and career readiness curriculum for middle school through high school.  
  • Provide on-site coaching for other GK staff on the CCR curriculum, best practices around student support and college/career advising  
  • Stay updated on, and share best practices around college matching, admissions, college success training   
  • Gather and share resources for students and staff regarding college and career readiness  
  • Develop and lead internal and external training on CCR topics (e.g. family engagement, college admissions, applying for scholarships and financial aid, developing a college-going culture, college life, college decisions, etc.)  
  • Recruit student outreach, recruitment, and retention throughout the year for citywide CCR programs.  
  • Plan and lead citywide CCR activities/organization-wide events (e.g. College Application and FAFSA parties, college and career panels, senior extravaganza, college trips) and work with GK senior leadership to secure volunteers as needed.  
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, school personnel, and other program partners.  
  • Build partnerships and effective relationships with college administration, career services, financial aid, and other offices to advocate for students and assist them in reaching their goals and support CCR activities.  
  • Plan and lead GKU - a week-long summer college transition program for GK recent graduates to provide support, guidance, and strategies to help them feel prepared for their first year of college  
  • Collaborate with GK’s development team to ensure GK maintains a strong alumni network, by keeping and sharing an up-to-date list of GK’s HS graduates.  
  • Serve as the GK representative on the College Access Consortium of NY (CACNY)  
  • Occasional evenings, weekends, and overnights with long-distance travel required (e.g. annual overnight or multi-night youth retreat, college trips, GK events).  
  • Work with other staff and students to implement the annual Global Kids Youth Conference and other special projects.  
  • Support a team of college and career readiness liaisons at each GK site.  

  

Administrative Responsibilities:  

  • Collaborate with other GK staff and citywide school partners on logistics for program implementation (e.g. space, security needs, permits, trip forms/permission slips).  
  • Collect, input, and review attendance, evaluation, and other data related to student progress.  
  • Develop and maintain methods of tracking data at various program locations; Manage and maintain annual Seniors Doc/Spreadsheet to track the progress of all GK seniors; collaborate with GK site teams to ensure updated and accurate information is submitted.  
  • Provide quarterly reports to GK senior staff on organization-wide student progress toward college and career goals.  
  • Contribute anecdotal and quantitative data for funding proposals and reports  
  • Stay current on the latest trends in college success and persistence in higher education.  
  • Complete administrative tasks related to maintaining assigned GK equipment, fiscal procedures (fund requests and expense reports), and other tasks.  
  • Support fundraising efforts for college and career programs and services.  
  • Participate in the organization’s long-term planning   

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of relevant professional experience or master’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant professional experience.  
  • Expertise of the college application process and creating a college-going culture  
  • At least 2 years of experience supporting students with the college application process  
  • Experience creating and facilitating activities to help students become college and career-ready  
  • Experience organizing and hosting special events for students  
  • Strong understanding of a wide array of NYC social service resources for youth and families.  
  • Experience using interactive experiential learning strategies, counseling and conflict resolution skills, and youth development/leadership strategies with middle school and/or high school-age youth.  
  • Experience and enthusiasm for designing and leading educational workshops that build on each other.  
  • Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist pedagogical practices  
  • Experience working in or closely with NYC public schools is a plus.  
  • Commitment to social justice and human rights.  
  • Excellent facilitation, consensus-building, and interpersonal skills.  
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.  
  • Strong communication, writing, administrative, organizational, and technology skills (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Zoom).  
  • International experience is a plus  
  • Fluency in other languages is a plus (particularly Spanish, Haitian Creole, and South Asian languages and dialects)  

  

Salary/Benefits: This full-time exempt position has a salary range of $65,000 to $70,000 based on experience and qualifications. Global Kids offers affordable medical benefits (with plans as low as $1/month), dental, and life insurance as well as paid holidays, 12 vacation days (year 1), increasing thereafter based on years of employment, 3 personal days, and 8 sick days. Additionally, the GK offices are closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day. GK staff also have access to retail discounts and other benefits through our Professional Employer Organization (PEO).
