About the Opportunity

As the Director of the Medical Assistant Pathway, you will play a pivotal role in expanding and diversifying the health science talent pipeline. You will be responsible for designing, piloting, launching, and managing a new Career Kickstart medical assistant pathway program for high school students. This role requires a deep understanding of health science education, instructional design, and assessment development. You will collaborate with teachers, higher education faculty, employers, and workforce committees to refine course content, develop instructional and assessment materials, and train teachers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a comprehensive medical assistant pathway program for high school students, aligned with industry and higher education standards.
  • Build and maintain a standing advisory committee comprising K-12 leaders, higher education professors, and industry experts to provide input and advice on the course and associated assessment, instructional materials, and teacher training.
  • Stay up-to-date with the CTE landscape and health science pathways, translating knowledge and updates into Career Kickstart's program strategy and improvements.
  • Support workstreams to ensure the program delivers an exceptional user experience to students, educators, and schools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure program vision is translated into key policy design choices and technical requirements, and that the development roadmap stays on track.
  • Design, write, update, and maintain the Course Exam Description (CED) in alignment with industry and higher education standards, ensuring it is relevant and valuable to students taking the course.
  • Coordinate a broad coalition of stakeholders, including expert high school teachers, industry experts, and higher education leaders, to ensure the pathway and assessment meet state standards and align to secondary, postsecondary, and industry needs and requirements.
  • Collaborate with external curriculum development providers to ensure curriculum materials are aligned with course content and skills, support the overarching pathway goals, and provide high-quality materials for teachers and students.
  • Plan and deliver high-quality in-person professional learning to support teachers from a wide range of backgrounds in successfully teaching the courses in the pathway, in collaboration with the instruction team.
  • Develop high-quality instructional lesson plans aligned to the course frameworks that support teachers in engaging students in hands-on learning experiences, and review and revise lesson plans submitted by outside writers.
  • Collaborate with the assessment team on the assessment strategy and design.
  • Provide input on formative and summative assessment strategies.
  • Develop formative and summative assessment materials, including sample questions and task models.
  • Review assessment questions and forms.
  • Represent the Career Kickstart program and the medical assistant pathway with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Present about the medical assistant pathway at national conferences.

About You

You have:

  • A degree in Health Science or a related field or a degree in teaching required.
  • Three years' experience teaching postsecondary or high school health science courses with a focus on the medical assistant pathway.
  • Experience with design and implementation of professional development as well as experience with instructional design and content development required.
  • Passion for health science education.
  • Proven ability to manage and/or launch new projects.
  • High degree of personal ownership and accountability to consistently deliver results in a fast-paced and high-profile environment.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Natural curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a process-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills; demonstrated ability to establish positive working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Thorough understanding of the CTE landscape and experience with career-focused education offerings (e.g., coursework, credentials) that are successfully adopted in K-12, including development processes, state/district needs, emerging technologies, go-to-market strategies, partnership integrations, etc. Preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 10-20% of the year.
  • You are eligible to work in the US for any employer.

About Our Process

  • While the hiring process may vary, it generally includes: resume and application submission, recruiter phone screen, hiring manager interview, performance exercise and/or panel interview, and reference checks. This is an approximately 8-week process.

About Our Benefits and Compensation

  • College Board offers a competitive benefits and compensation program that attracts top talent looking to make a difference in education. As a self-sustaining non-profit, we believe in compensating employees equitably in relation to each other, their qualifications, their impact, and the relevant market.
  • The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $80,000 to $135,000. College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.
