Summary:
The American Sign Language (ASL) Direct Support Professional is responsible for the safety, welfare, training, and supervision of all individuals residing in their assigned work locations for their assigned shift. The Direct Support Professional is a member of the treatment planning team, providing and supporting a structured, consistent, and therapeutic environment. DSPs are responsible for implementing individualized treatment programs for the time they are on duty. In addition, they are responsible for intervening and resolving crisis situations as well as providing emergency CPR and First Aid if required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and may be required to demonstrate ASL proficiency through assessment by agency staff.
- Responsible for providing supervision and protective oversight of assigned individuals throughout scheduled shift assignments to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Responsible for maintaining ongoing knowledge and understanding of established levels of protective oversight and supervision requirements under the individual’s plan of care.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of daily activities to meet person-centered choices, and identified habilitation and educational needs.
- Support and implement specific training activities and tasks to assigned individuals based on the person-centered plan, habilitation plan, or education plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) with one year of experience working with children with an autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities as a service provider or as a family member.
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) with an emphasis in Human Services with or without experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in Psychology or related field with or without experience.
Further, ALL EMPLOYEES are expected to have and maintain current and valid driver’s licenses.
