We are currently seeking a passionate and knowledgeable American Sign Language (ASL) Educator. The ideal candidate will possess fluency in ASL, a comprehensive understanding of Deaf culture, and a genuine enthusiasm for teaching high school students. The ASL Educator will be tasked with designing and delivering an engaging ASL curriculum, nurturing a supportive learning atmosphere, and enhancing cultural awareness and sensitivity among students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute a thorough ASL curriculum that aligns with educational standards and institutional objectives.
  • Instruct ASL courses for high school students, catering to various proficiency levels.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student participation and engagement.
  • Employ diverse instructional strategies and resources to accommodate different learning preferences.
  • Evaluate and assess student performance, providing constructive feedback and support for academic growth.
  • Enhance awareness and understanding of Deaf culture and community within the educational setting.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in ASL education and incorporate them into the curriculum.
  • Facilitate a monthly in-person gathering for students enrolled in the course.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, Education, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid state teaching certification.
  • A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and platforms, including online curriculum and Google Classroom.
  • Ability to inspire and engage students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and learning.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience in online teaching and familiarity with online platforms (e.g., Zoom, Nearpod).
  • Knowledge of project-based learning and student-centered instructional methods.
  • Understanding of Deaf culture and community.
