Accounting Assistant
Job Description

Status: Part Time (10 hours/week)
Reports To: Financial Manager
Salary Review: Annually by Executive Team

POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Accountant supports and affirms the identity, mission, and vision of Word of Peace by managing financial records and transactions with accuracy and integrity. This role ensures the financial health of the church by maintaining accurate financial statements, supporting budgeting processes, and adhering to best accounting practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Donation Management: Accurately input and reconcile donations received, ensuring records are up-to-date and discrepancies are resolved promptly.
2. Bank Transactions: Enter and reconcile all bank transactions, ensuring accuracy in bank activity and accounts.
3. Accounts Payable: Process accounts payable by inputting invoices, reconciling vendor statements, and preparing timely payments.
4. Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation and distribution of regular financial reports to support decision-making.
5. Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with the Financial Manager to assist in budgeting and forecasting, providing necessary financial data and analysis.
6. General Ledger Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the general ledger by posting transactions and ensuring accounts are balanced.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related accounting experience.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
  • Experience with non-profit fund accounting is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Support the mission and values of Word of Peace and demonstrate a commitment to its financial health and integrity.
