Serves as business partner to Human Resource leaders by assisting with all employee relations matters, to include conducting and documenting investigations, providing training to leaders related HR laws, policies, procedures, and emerging practices, and providing timely counsel to leaders seeking employee relations advice. As HR manager, this position oversees the day-to-day Human Resources operations related to The View Alexandria and Home and Community-based Services. This position also provides additional support to all Goodwin Living communities/service lines with employee relations matters and other initiatives as needed.

Employee Relations Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Assist management in preparing performance management and formal disciplinary actions. Ensuring official documentation is properly maintained to support recommended employment actions.

2. Consult with management in developing team member performance improvement plans. Partners with management to ensure proper policies and procedures are followed when preparing notices related to team member counseling and disciplinary action.

3. Investigate team members’ grievances.

4. Advise team members and management on company policies.

5. Coach and counsel team members in collaboration with HR leadership and in conjunction with department directors.

6. Lead and oversee separation conversations and related actions.

7. Provide mediation/conflict resolution assistance.

8. Ensure that company practices, policies, and procedures are implemented in a fair and equitable manner to all team members.

9. Promote effective communication among team members, supervisors, managers and executive management in matters of personnel and human resources.

10. Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and team member grievances. Develops further training as needed.

11. Monitors and responds to unemployment claims/hearings for Goodwin Living.

Human Resources Management

1. Oversees the day-to-day operations of HR for The View Alexandria and Home and Community-based services.

2. Provide management oversite to the HR Generalist.

3. Maintain knowledge of, and ensures compliance with, state, federal, local, and organizational regulations/policies.

4. Consult with HR leadership on legal matters and serves as a key partner on HR projects and objectives as part of the HR leadership team.

Education and Experience:

1. A minimum of five years of progressive employee relations experience with leading and conducting internal investigations.

2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

3. Thorough understanding of state and federal laws concerning labor relations.

3. Ability to remain tactful, and calm, in controversial and/or confrontational situations. Must have a welcoming presence and ability to build relationships with management and team members.

4. Bachelor’s degree in Employee Relations, Human Resources or related field or relevant experience.

6. SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP or PHR/ SPHR certification preferred.
