MATH COACH 5-8
REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer
JOB GOALS: The Math Coach works to provide instructional support to teachers in mathematics. The coach collaborates with instructional staff and the leadership team to promote student achievement by identifying research-based instructional strategies, carrying out model lessons, providing co-teaching support, giving constructive feedback, and providing data analysis assistance. Using student achievement data, the coach will identify professional development needs and plan, present, and evaluate on-site staff development activities. The coach will be proactive in planning a mathematics program that engages and excites our diverse learners.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strong experience in classroom instruction in Math.
- Provide on-site, embedded coaching to math teachers.
- Help teachers meet the goals and expectations set forth by the administration and LCCPS benchmarks regarding mathematics education especially in the area of MCAS performance
- Work with teachers to embed test strategies and preparation in classroom instruction in order to raise testing scores and student achievement
- Provide professional opportunities in the area of math instruction, assessment and data analysis
- Help to plan and implement an engaging and meaningful mathematics program
- Model innovative, differentiated, and engaging mathematics instruction within the classroom. Provide co-teaching support to struggling teachers.
- Serve as an in-house resource in understanding mathematical content
- Work with the Chief Academic Officer in mathematics curriculum review
- Serve as a resource to parents. Conduct and facilitate parent workshops
- Work with teachers/administrators in implementation and support of the LCCPS math program and best practices
- Provide constructive feedback with measurable outcomes based on data analysis and data driven instruction
- Attend grade level and curriculum meetings on a weekly basis. Attend all other meetings as needed.
- Work with the Chief Academic Officer in collection of data and data analysis including the implementation of common assessments and benchmark testing
- Work with the team in curriculum mapping and curriculum development
- Work with the Academic Leadership team and teachers to coordinate, deliver and provide appropriate internal and external professional development opportunities
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree preferred from an accredited college or university
- MA Department of Education Certification required
- Five years teaching experience
- Experience with urban education
- Extensive training in mathematics, pedagogy and assessment (including data analysis)
- Training and experience with mentoring and coaching adult learners
- Experience with Word and Excel
- Excellent communication skills verbal, written and interpersonal
- Bilingual (Khmer, Spanish, Portuguese) candidates are encouraged to apply.
