Early Childhood Assistant Teacher

Summary
Friendship Preschool is hiring a part-time assistant teacher who will be working with a lead teacher for children ages 3-5. Our teachers are passionate about early childhood education and dedicated to the growth and development of children and their families, and their own professional growth. We are inspired by loose parts theory, schema play, nature, and are child focused. At Friendship we reserve Mondays just for staff with classes meeting Tuesday through Friday morning. We offer up to 15 hours of professional development each school year that is tailored to us and during work hours, and we follow our local school district calendar, so when the public schools are off so are we, including summers.
Description:
The Assistant Teacher reports directly to the Lead Teacher with oversight from the Director, and is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher with the educational curriculum, environmental plan, and care for a group of children. The Assistant Teacher is expected to take the direction of the Lead Teacher and assist in all duties of running a classroom. Assistant Teachers can assume responsibility for and supervision of a group of children. The Assistant Teacher could assume responsibility of the classroom in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
Duties
Responsibilities to Children include:
- Assist Lead Teacher with attendance and planning/implementation
- Demonstrate respect for children's thoughts, language, and feelings through expectations and interactions
- Value and respect the diversity and dignity of each child's values and strengths
- Use positive guidance and social problem solving
- Value and respect the diversity and dignity of each family's values and strengths
- Respect each family's right to privacy by not discussing private and confidential information with other families
- Greet parents/guardians by first name with a positive and friendly smile
- Follow lead and direction of the Lead Teacher and Director
- Listen and speak respectfully to all staff, seeking to honor and understand
- Value and respect the diversity and dignity of each staff member's values and strengths
- Model professionalism
- Take responsibility for Lead Teacher duties as assigned in their absence
- Sub for absent staff as needed and available
- Help plan, prepare, and then attend school events
- Arrive on time and ready to work
- Follow program philosophy, policies, and standard practices
- Follow rules set forth by ODJFS/DCY
- Attend all provided professional development and required trainings
- Demonstrate knowledge of child development
- Create and support positive relationships among staff, children, and families
Requirements
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Must have experience working with preschoolers in an early childhood learning environment.
- Minimum of CDA or enrolled in a college education program
- 2-4 yr degree in early childhood or related field preferred
- Must meet the requirements set forth by Ohio.
- Pass and maintain physical examination that meets the requirements of ODJFS/DCY
- Ability to lift, carry, and hold a toddler or preschooler of average weight (30-50 lbs)

Familiarity or training in trauma informed care
Familiarity or training in Conscious Discipline or theorists Thomas Gordan and Dan Gartrell
