National Forest Foundation (NFF) is pleased to offer a regular, full-time position to coordinate a program of work supporting a partnership between NFF and the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland (ARP). The coordinator will work with communities across Northern Colorado and provide leadership for projects completed in partnership with the ARP.

Position Function: The Northern Colorado Program Coordinator reports directly to NFF’s Rocky Mountain Region Program Manager and works closely with other Colorado-based field staff. The incumbent is responsible for developing and executing programs and projects related to wildfire resilience, wildfire recovery, recreation, and forest health to facilitate the restoration of watersheds, sustainable recreation, lands, and infrastructure needs on the ARP and adjacent federal and nonfederal lands. The coordinator will work closely with the U.S. Forest Service, other federal and state agencies, communities, conservation NGOs, and private sector partners. The NFF Coordinator will be expected to manage a robust program of work in close coordination with partners and other NFF staff.


Position Duties and Responsibilities: The Northern Colorado Program Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate with partner organizations to facilitate collaborative resource planning and community engagement related to post-fire recovery, reforestation, restoration, and recreation.
  • Coordinate complex financial processes and funding mechanisms associated with ARP-NFF partnership programs, including the Northern Colorado Fireshed Collaborative Fund.
  • Coordinate closely with ARP staff to bolster the Forest’s recreation program, assisting local recreation-based collaboratives, and utilizing NFF’s contract and grantmaking tools for priority recreation projects.
  • Utilize the NFF’s contracting and grantmaking tools to assist in the repair and maintenance of ARP infrastructure.
  • Support collaborative planning efforts across the ARP based on ARP and community-identified needs. Assistance may include facilitation, coordination, or financial management.
  • Lead the advertisement, negotiation, and awarding of multiple contracts for services related to the on-the-ground implementation of projects
  • Work directly with contractors, consultants, nonprofit organizations, agency partners, and private landowners to coordinate the on-the-ground implementation of projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Work with the U.S. Forest Service to help develop, modify, manage, and track large-scale Stewardship Agreements, Participating Agreements, and Challenge Cost Share Agreements associated with projects.
  • Manage budgets and reporting associated with grants from federal, state, and local government sources, as well as philanthropic support from corporations, foundations, and individuals.
  • Support the expansion of the base of private and public-sector supporters and partners by actively pursuing funding opportunities, creating new development opportunities, and writing grants.
  • Build and maintain close and mutually beneficial relationships among federal and state agency partners, local government, nonprofit organizations, and the NFF to implement effective community-based conservation partnerships.
  • Strengthen the NFF’s ability to support on-the-ground forest and watershed health projects by supporting activities that reinforce existing collaborations and help build new partnerships.
  • Maintain a breadth of knowledge about current trends, emerging issues, policy interventions, and innovations in the field of conservation programming to enhance the NFF strategic efficacy.


Location: The location for this position is in Northern Colorado. The position may be based in Fort Collins, Boulder, Idaho Springs, Granby, or another Colorado community near the ARP. Applicants must be able to travel regularly throughout the Northern Colorado Region / ARP National Forest. This position is a work-from-home position and requires reliable internet access and a dedicated workspace.


Compensation: The NFF offers competitive compensation and benefits and has recently implemented a new compensation program as part of our commitment to transparency. The salary range for this position will be in the $63,280 to $79,326 range. Please note that the indicated salary range describes the full range for an incumbent in this position, new staff will generally start near the base end of the range NFF is committed to internal salary equity.

Requirements:

Education and Qualifications: NFF expects the Northern Colorado Program Coordinator to possess the following educational and experiential qualifications:

  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree, in conservation, business, landscape architecture, recreation management, environmental science, or another related field.
  • At least three years of work experience with conservation programs, project planning, and/or coordinating project implementation.
  • Involvement in project planning, coordination, accomplishment, and budget tracking, and project operations management that involve multiple implementation partners, contractors, contracts for services, and funding sources.
  • Strong writing skills and public speaking experience.
  • You must be authorized to work in the United States.


Abilities and Skills: NFF expects the Northern Colorado Program Coordinator to possess the following proven abilities and skills:

  • Ability to work with a wide range of people with differing and sometimes conflicting opinions, and to maintain neutrality.
  • Facilitation or mediation experience, including experience serving as a neutral, third-party facilitator of a multi-stakeholder collaborative effort.
  • Commitment to the mission of the NFF and familiarity with the U.S. Forest Service purpose and National Forest lands management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently across Northern Colorado, as well as a willingness to work in outdoor conditions, and maintain a flexible work schedule, including participation in weekend and evening events.
  • Ability to work well and be flexible in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to represent the NFF in a clear and professional manner through excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong attention to detail, with skill in working in a timely and well-organized fashion.
  • A valid U.S. Driver’s License.
