Job Description

Summary:

The Exit Operator/Inspector is primarily responsible for line function in the production process and is responsible, in conjunction with the Coater Operator, for the quality of finished products.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Controls the main line console and in doing so determines line mode, i.e. start/stop, catenary positions, line speed, exit coil size, tower and recoiler tension
  • Maintains on-line visual quality associated with the coating process
  • Immediately reports any discrepancies from established standards
  • Quickly analyzes problems and gives corrective action or determines coat/no coat sequences under the direction of the shift supervisor
  • Communicates verbally and in writing with other departments of the plant concerning plant operations.
  • Operates line controls using both hands simultaneously
  • Reads and comprehends instructions regarding new equipment, equipment changes, and/or procedural changes used in the area
  • Uses computer to enter and retrieve information
  • Reads, comprehends and interprets production schedules and paint sheets
  • Inputs and retrieves information to and from the AS/400 main frame and the IPM systems.
  • Maintains clean and organized work area according to 5S standards

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with routine maintenance (not requiring specialized skills) and clean-up of work area and equipment
  • Performs miscellaneous plant duties
  • Actively participates in adhering to plant housekeeping requirements by picking up trash, sweeping work areas, and returning materials and equipment to their proper locations
  • Assists maintenance (when specialized maintenance skills are not required) with line repairs
  • Adheres to all safety and work rules
  • Adheres to and follows job specific SOPs
  • Assists and trains new employees
  • Maintains regular and on-time attendance
  • Reads and comprehends instructions regarding new equipment, equipment changes and/or procedural changes
  • Performs miscellaneous assignments as directed

Critical Demands:

  • Unrestricted physical movement to safely operate complex, high speed equipment and controls
  • Hand, eye and feet coordination to operate fork trucks
  • Squat, kneel or stoop frequently to perform job duties
  • Reach or extend forward for long periods of time to perform job duties
  • Ability to read and comprehend written materials such as schedules, SOPs, work rules, etc.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral instructions
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Walk, sit, or stand for extended periods of time
  • Stamina to work in extreme temperatures
  • Ascend and descend stairs to reach work areas
  • Dexterity to operate computers in order to enter or retrieve information
  • Communicate with other employees verbally or in writing.

 

Qualifications

  • High school level reading and writing, visual acuity to read labels, meters, gauges, documents and instructions
  • Six months work experience in an industrial or warehouse environment with fork lifts
  • Ability to safely operate small manual and electric hand tools
  • Available to work up to 12 hours per day on rotating shifts, that could include weekends and holidays
  • 6 to 12 months previous experience on a coating line is preferred
