Job Description

Position Overview:The Senior Mechanical Engineer will design functional, reliable, and cost-effective heavy-duty vehicle components. This role involves engineering analysis, design or redesign, and the development of components for existing and new vehicles. The successful candidate will provide integration and execution support for vehicle and component design.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks according to Oshkosh and general industry engineering standards and processes.
  • Support senior engineers in preparing plans, designs, computation methods, and reporting.
  • Manage projects or parts of projects of limited complexity.
  • Collaborate with other engineering or business support disciplines internally and with external suppliers.
  • Provide guidance or mentorship to entry-level engineers, designers, or technicians on common projects.
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources on technical issues.
  • Enforce proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards.
  • Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Prepare layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Conduct engineering analysis to support the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance for production support.
  • Analyze and resolve engineering issues reported via verbal or written communication.
  • Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.
  • Create and maintain project documentation for analysis, research, and historical records.
  • Utilize analytical and mathematical approaches to calculate or model system performance and optimize designs.
  • Ensure regular attendance and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of related experience.
  • Mechanical Engineering Experience.
  • Experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in automotive product design (not plant equipment) troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle equipment and related systems.
  • Experience with high voltage BEV.
  • Experience in automotive software programming/CAN network analysis.
  • CATIA experience (ability to navigate CAD for troubleshooting, no CAD design work required).
