About the Position

The Regional Aquatics Manager supervises and manages the MVP Athletic Club Aquatics Departments by providing world-class facilities, instruction and safety compliance A Regional Aquatics Manager at MVP Sports Clubs is expected to be the lead for all American Red Cross water-based certifications and trainings (ie. WSI and LGI). Through direct leadership of the Aquatics Managers, the goal is to make MVP Athletic Clubs the preferred aquatics destination in West Michigan by providing programming and services that rival any competitor. Grow participation and revenue in aquatics in West Michigan MVP facilities through creative thinking and strategic planning all while maintaining the integrity of our athletic club membership model. This position is a part of our Operations Department reporting to VP, Operations with a dotted line to the Club Director.

Responsibilities

Regional Aquatics Leadership

  • Direct oversight and ultimately responsible for all Aquatics Manager development and role execution across the MVP brand.
  • Lead recruitment efforts, in partnership with TA Manager, for any Aquatics Manager openings.
    • During an Aquatics Manager opening, act as the payroll and process manager (APRs) for Aquatics team in building.
    • The Building Director is responsible for the operations schedule during this time.
  • Audit building aquatics spaces and team to provide direction on areas to improve. Areas to evaluate include but are not limited to:
    • Team observation
    • Skill testing
    • LG presentation & protocols
    • LG coverage at pools.
    • Instructional services.
    • LG training.
  • Act as lead with American Red Cross working with that organization to maintain good standing in running ARC LG and swim lessons.
    • Admin for course administration.
    • Negotiate terms and execute any necessary agreements.
  • Work with Aquatics Managers to ensure LG & WSI courses are scheduled to allow for constant pipeline of certifications and re-certifications for existing team to stay certified and act as a recruiting tool to get new team members into the pipeline.
  • Direct partnership with Corporate Operations and HR teams to ensure effective Red Cross trainings, reporting and implementation.
  • Responsible for brand-standard execution and growth of aquatics programming.
  • Perform all leadership performance reviews in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Aim to visit each building with pools once per month.

Club-Specific Aquatics Leadership

  • Know, understand and exemplify the MVP Sports Clubs Values and Service Standards.
  • Ensures all Team Members (in and out of their department) know, understand and exemplify the MVP Sports Clubs Values and Service Standards.
  • Perform all team member performance reviews in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintains a quality aquatic team by hiring, training/orienting, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining as needed; maintains proper payroll records, timekeeping and employee paperwork.
  • Grow the building- specific aquatics program and achieve monthly net revenue goals as established by the annual aquatics budget.
  • Provides certification of team by arranging training in CPR, WSI, Lifeguard in partnership with corporate team members; monitors expiration dates of staff certifications; develops and instructs staff on programs offered by club.
  • Schedules aquatics team member to provide appropriate coverage per staffing policy, including lifeguards and swimming instructors.
  • Schedule aquatics programming including but not limited to private lessons, American Red Cross Learn to Swim courses, group ex classes (with assistance from group ex department), and events, and effectively communicate pool schedule in a timely manner.
  • Assist with customer program enrollments by helping participants sign up in-house or online. With the help of program instructors, assign program enrollees to the correct classes based on abilities. Follow up with as many customers as possible after program meetings and suggest next steps.
  • Monitor programming through quality control, surveying participants and team for suggestions, etc.
  • Interact with members inside and outside your department creating community and encouraging them to utilize Aquatics.
  • Identify current and future programming aquatic requirements, trends, and revenue generating potential by establishing rapport with members and staff, management, vendors.
  • Effectively communicate and build rapport with members & guests by responding to emails and voicemails within 24 hours.
  • Coordinates water testing quality with Property team and submits monthly records to State of MI in accordance with State of MI pool code.
  • Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the pools and pump room.
  • Maintain a neat and professional personal appearance by wearing the MVP Sports Clubs uniform (see uniform matrix) and name badge.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Club Operations Support:

  • In-club point of contact for all Aquatics initiatives, including frequent communication with all building leadership.
  • Assist with other club operations tasks as needed, as directed by the Club Director.
  • Develop synergy with all club departments for cross-selling and combined programming.
  • Participate and/or lead regular Service Game training sessions as directed by supervisor.
  • Adhere to all departmental and program Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Operational and Educational support outside of leadership responsibilities are required and may include lifeguard shifts, teaching classes, instructing certification courses, assisting in the operations, etc. These hours should not exceed 10 hours per week. Based on operational needs and in necessity, these hours may exceed 10 hours per week at the discretion of Club Director.
  • Vary weekly work schedule in order to be available to staff working different times of day as well as be present for times of high customer traffic. May include opening, closing, and/or weekends.
  • Performs shifts and assist in general club operations as assigned by Club Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with emphasis in Aquatics strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years instruction experience in swimming or aquatics related program with at least 1-year supervisory experience.
  • Current CPR, WSI, First Aid and Lifeguard certifications.
  • Communication and leadership skills needed to supervise and motivate a team.
  • Customer service skills to handle challenging situations.
  • Must be able to work extra hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (word processing & spreadsheet programs). Ability to learn new computer programs.
  • Physical Requirements: Bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand, sit and turn/pivot, lift/lower, push, pull and carry up to 40 lbs. Perform office tasks using simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation and reach associated with assigned tasks such as paperwork, typing, and/or word processing, filing, calculating and use of telephone.
