The Financial Accountant III is responsible for assisting the finance department in creating accurate and timely financial records for the organization. The role will have no supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and resource for the operations and accounting personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Examine inventory to verify journal and ledger entries.
  • Report to management regarding the finances of establishment.
  • Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology.
  • Develop, maintain, or analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
  • Compile budget data and documents, based on estimated revenues and expenses and previous budgets.
  • Report budget variances monthly and assist preparation of quarterly budget reviews with department leadership.
  • Prepare, analyze, or verify annual reports, financial statements, and other records, using accepted accounting and statistical procedures to assess financial condition and facilitate financial planning.
  • Perform financial calculations, such as amounts due, interest charges, balances, discounts, equity, and principal.
  • Reconcile or note and report discrepancies found in records.
  • Compile statistical, financial, accounting, or auditing reports and tables pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses.
  • Prepare detailed reports on audit findings.
  • Conduct month-end and year-end closing process in timely manner.
  • Support in annual budget creation.
  • Keep information confidential and secure.
  • Develop understanding of accounting and bookkeeping personnel duties, to ensure proper accounting principles are upheld.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance from a four-year college or university; and 2-5 years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must have strong follow up, organizational, attention to detail, time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

Physical Requirements

  • Travel: None
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (seated) 70% of the day and occasionally walk to nearby facility and inside the office to access files.
  • Constantly operates a computer or other office machinery.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with managers, vendors etc. and must be able to exchange accurate information timely, and in a clear manner.
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform computer tasks, and expansive reading.
