Your New Role:

Hernandez Consulting & Construction is looking for an individual, for Healthcare Construction, with experience in one or more of the following: Electronic Health Record Management Systems (EHRMS), data center, communications, data infrastructure (cabling), or small server rooms. Having Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) and/or Phasing Experience is a major plus.  We are looking for this individual to join our expanding team as a superintendent for a commercial construction project on a federal VA facility in Hawaii. You must demonstrate at least five (5) years of experience with the overall day-to-day supervision of field-related construction activities. This role will be responsible for the overall cohesion of the construction project.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing Healthcare / Hospital type projects daily including working closely with the Client to enforce safety, always maintaining infection control, coordinating subcontractors to ensure proper phasing, overseeing all work being put in place, project documentation, working with inspectors, coordinating with the design team, and maintaining an unyielding commitment to quality. Being organized, extremely clean, and paying attention to detail is a must.

What You'll Need to Succeed:
  • Extensive technical and practical knowledge, and experience working for a General Contractor as a Construction Superintendent.
  • VA / DOD Healthcare experience is highly desired.
  • Manage, schedule, and coordinate subcontractors on general construction projects ranging in size from $3M to $40M.
  • EHRMS, ICRA, and Phasing Experience are major pluses.
  • Experience in the oversight of installing a new IT infrastructure.
  • Ability to prepare or review technical engineering specifications and statements of work covering complex and diverse engineering designs or changes.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction practices and methods as well as construction management.
  • Ability to write and speak to report on progress and outcome of technical assignments and to present recommendations.
  • Ability to monitor construction projects to successful and timely completion.
  • Knowledge of Primavera SureTrak scheduling software and/or other construction scheduling software packages, along with knowledge of the estimating process.
  • Knowledge of safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, laws, and regulations as they relate to engineering performance requirements.
  • Must be ok with regularly rolling up the sleeves and swinging a hammer to get the job done on smaller jobs.
  • OSHA 30 and QA/QC Training are a major plus.

What you’ll be doing in your new role:
  • Supervise total construction effort to ensure the project is constructed by design, budget, and schedule. Includes interfacing with client representatives and other contractors, etc.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise on-site functions. 
  • Supervise craft employees and/or other contractors as required by the contract.
  • May authorize and/or approve all project personnel transactions, purchase requisitions, field design change requests, etc.
  • Provide technical assistance, i.e., interpretation of drawings, recommending construction methods, equipment, etc., as required.
  • Assist project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards, etc.
  • Ensure all on-site personnel comply with project procedures, safety program requirements, work rules, etc.
  • Document all violations; notify project management and recommend/implement corrective actions as required.
  • Assume responsibility for the productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance of the project.
  • Perform additional assignments per management’s direction.
Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders, and negotiation of work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires the use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, sit, talk, and hear (bells, whistles, etc.), stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, walk for long periods, and stand for long periods.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
