Summary:

The Asylum Seeker Case Manager Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting the Director of Social Services, primarily focused on the unique needs and challenges faced by asylum seekers. This position involves overseeing day-to-day operations of the Social Services Department, ensuring the provision of comprehensive support and services to asylum seekers under the guidance of the Director of Social Services. Asylum shelters are exempt from DHS housing placement performance measures.

Responsibilities:

The Asylum Seeker Case Manager Supervisor will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Ensure strict adherence to organizational policies and procedures, with a special emphasis on conflict resolution specific to asylum seekers.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Social Services in approving employee timesheets and time off requests, recognizing the importance of a flexible schedule for our diverse clientele.
  • Play an active role in shaping departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, offering recommendations for continuous improvement to meet the evolving needs of asylum seekers.
  • Lead a team of case managers in the development of service/treatment plans, discharge plans, and follow-up care programs tailored to asylum seekers.
  • Manage the recruitment, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation of social services staff, ensuring they are well-equipped to address the unique challenges faced by asylum seekers.
  • Establish and implement schedules and work assignments within the social services department to optimize support to asylum seekers.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency services as necessary, recognizing the vulnerability of the population served.
  • Ensure case managers provide all necessary and culturally sensitive services, including housing, employment, and therapeutic placements, considering the specific needs of asylum seekers.
  • Oversee the orientation and training of new employees, emphasizing cultural competency and sensitivity in working with asylum seekers.
  • Maintain comprehensive supervisory case notes, referrals, and related documentation, recognizing the importance of documenting the unique challenges faced by asylum seekers.
  • Facilitate ongoing communication with all supervisors regarding social services matters and their impact on asylum seekers.
  • Coordinate services to ensure the shelter operates safely, comfortably, and in full compliance with DHS and OTDA regulations as they relate to asylum seekers.
  • Generate regular progress reports, emphasizing the progress and challenges faced by asylum seekers.
  • Collaborate closely with housing specialists and employment services staff to assess asylum seekers' readiness for housing and/or employment.
  • Organize and facilitate community outreach and related activities tailored to the specific needs of asylum seekers.
  • Act as a liaison and representative for community interactions as required, fostering positive relationships that support the well-being of asylum seekers.

Professional & Personal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or related field with a minimum of 1 year of direct social service supervisory experience, recognizing the importance of cultural competence.
  • Associate degree in human services or related field with a minimum of 2 years of direct social service supervisory experience, with an emphasis on serving diverse populations.
  • High School Diploma/General Equivalent Diploma with a minimum of 4 years of direct social service supervisory experience, demonstrating expertise in managing complex cases.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and occasional weekends as necessary to meet the needs of asylum seekers.
  • Exceptional demonstrated writing proficiency, particularly in documenting the unique challenges faced by asylum seekers.
  • Preferred experience in assessment, direct practice, counseling, supervision, community outreach, group leadership, and program development, with a focus on cultural sensitivity.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and database management, using these tools to track and report on the progress of asylum seekers.
  • Familiarity with community resources tailored to the specific needs of asylum seekers.
  • Knowledgeable in DHS/OTDA social service documentation policies and procedures, ensuring accurate and culturally sensitive documentation.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, along with resourcefulness in addressing the challenges faced by asylum seekers.
  • Familiarity with community health services, social service support agencies, and networks that cater to asylum seekers.
  • Ability to remain composed in crisis situations, recognizing the added stressors experienced by asylum seekers.
  • Proven supervisory experience with a team-oriented approach, emphasizing cultural competence and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups, including staff and volunteers from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Proven aptitude for managing multiple tasks efficiently under pressure, particularly in addressing the urgent needs of asylum seekers.
  • Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and efficient time management, ensuring that asylum seekers receive timely and appropriate support.
  • Exhibits maturity, integrity, and sound judgment, particularly when making decisions that impact the well-being of asylum seekers.
  • Bilingual (Spanish, French, Creole, or other languages) preferred.

  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities
