Function: Clear Construction is seeking an experienced Lead Finish Carpenters responsible for overseeing and executing high-quality finishing work on high-end residential construction projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
GENERAL
- Perform finish and trim carpentry work according to plans and specifications
- Supervising a team of finish carpenters to ensure that all work is completed to the highest quality
- Continuously hone skills by working with the foreman or manager.
- Measure, cut, and install various fixtures and millwork for doors, windows, ceiling panels, staircases, decking, furniture, etc.
- Erect scaffolding or ladders as needed
- Collaborate with other carpenters, journeymen, and supervisors to complete projects
- Troubleshoot and repair issues with building components and equipment
- Follow established regulations and advocate for safety on each worksite
- Installing wooden structures such as roofing frames, rafters, partitions, joists, and stud work
- Designing and installing cabinets, shelving, fitted furniture, drywall, and insulation
- Adding fixtures and fittings such as door handles, locks, hinges, and closures
- Reading blueprints and designs to work to specifications prepared by other construction professionals, architects, and building code recommendations
- Expected to order some jobsite materials.
- Expected to run 1 large project with 2 to 3 journeymen/apprentice
- Have ability to install smaller projects if the larger one is still in process.
- Install base, crown, trim, jambs, casing, wainscot, paneling, chair rail, assist with coffered ceilings, may need some guidance with special hardware, build cabinets, install cabinetry, install interior and exterior doors, install windows.
- Be able to communicate to journeyman and apprentices the tasks for that day while also teaching them the proper techniques for that task.
- Have their own tools: Have all tools necessary for any type of project installation such as all hand tools, drills, jigsaw, chop saw, levels, laser level, grinder for scribing, small hand plane, etc. Not expected to have a table saw, portable planer, festool domino or festool track saw.
- Supervising a team of finish carpenters to ensure that all work is completed to the highest standards and on schedule.
- Reading blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the scope and requirements of each project.
- Measuring, cutting, and installing various types of trim, molding, baseboards, and other decorative woodwork.
- Preparing and finishing surfaces for painting or staining, including sanding, filling, and smoothing.
- Installing cabinetry, shelving, and other built-in furniture according to specifications.
- Inspecting completed work to ensure that it meets the required standards and specifications.
- Maintaining and organizing tools, equipment, and materials to ensure that they are readily available for use.
- Coordinating with other trades, such as electricians and plumbers, to ensure that work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Communicating with clients to understand their requirements and preferences, and ensuring that work is completed to their satisfaction.
- Providing guidance and training to other carpenters to ensure that they can perform their duties effectively.
- Continuously hone skills by working with the foreman or manager.
Qualification Requirements

Reasonable accommodations may enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Desirable Experience and Training Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school. Experience as a lead carpenter or completion of a recognized journeyman in this work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which, provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered.
OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Completion of a relevant finish carpentry training program or lead experience with at least four years of carpentry experience
- Keen attention to detail
- Blueprint reading skills
- Able to use common hand tools and power tools
- PPE and carpentry trade tools
- Troubleshooting and communication skills
- Physical stamina for lifting equipment and working at various heights and in tight spaces
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
In addition to the above duties, a Lead Finish Carpenter should have excellent communication skills, be able to work well under pressure, and have strong problem-solving skills. They should also be able to work independently or as part of a team, and be able to adapt to changing work conditions and schedules. A high degree of attention to detail and a commitment to quality are also essential for success in this role. Ability to complete deliverables and meet deadlines and use Procore software.
