THE CHALLENGE
This position will provide expertise and leadership in the development and implementation of OSHA required written programs and assisting in training development, with the objective of zero accidents.
This position will lead a team in the development, implementation, promotion, and assessment of the site-specific programs and procedures and to ensure that they conform with our corporate policies. This position will interface closely with our corporate safety and audit functions that reside under the General Counsel. This position, along with their team, will work with our plant and site managers to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and company EHS regulatory requirements, policies, procedures and standards. The position will be responsible for providing leadership to drive continuous improvements in plant safety and environmental culture. The position will primarily be responsible for site safety support and observation. This position will be responsible for safety support during outages and when requested onsite at all Onward facilities.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to the development and help implement site safety related programs that meet or exceed Corporate Safety Policies.
- Contribute to the development, implement, and document safety program elements and monitor their effectiveness; take initiative to garner support and create excitement to change behavior.
- Monitor adherence to federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including State and Federal OSHA safety standards.
- Maintain, track and analyze all incident data; look for opportunities for reducing hazards or safety issues through data driven decisions and report though the Corporate Safety and Audit group
- Prepare and disseminate injury reports and lead work groups in root cause analysis and action planning to eliminate or reduce work injuries; develop a process that ensures timely follow-up and completion of issues identified from incidents and proactive reporting.
- Implement risk assessment process to rate and measure risk for all tasks.
- Assist with any continuous process improvements for site safety.
- Support site staff on monthly safety meetings and training programs.
- Assist sites in the development and review of job hazard analysis for each major phase of our work to ensure its safe completion. This includes assessing the need for and facilitating the training for each Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) as may be required.
- Perform site visits and provide on the ground support during major outages.
- Investigate all safety related injuries and near misses and work with plant management to make appropriate changes to improve safety. Also, assist plant management with root cause analysis of incidents to ensure maximum prevention levels.
- Review equipment, operations and maintenance processes and facility for potential safety hazards to comply with all regulations. Ensure that safety awareness and hazards are included in all facility processes.

- B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health is preferred but not required, work experience in the field may be substituted for formal education.
- CSP, CIH, CHP or CRSP certifications preferred.
- Experience with PSM
