The Manufacturing Manager, Composite Parts is responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling the activities of the Advance Composite Parts and Assemblies production with respect to personnel, safety, and quality. He/She will coordinate with other departments for the purpose of producing products in line with plans, schedules, and standards of total customer satisfaction. Additional responsibilities include participating as a member of the Management Team in the development, communication and delivery of the strategic business plan.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for directing the work activities of all assigned personnel.
  • Accountable for all documentation and oracle transactions to assure traceability is maintained throughout fabrication and assembly.
  • Track all Time and Temperature sensitive materials to assure no out of date material is incorporated into part fabrication.
  • Must be willing and able to handle a flexible schedule, to include Weekends as needed.
  • Must have knowledge of all employee related duties to Include Kit Cutting, Laser Projection, Lay Up, Autoclave/Oven operations and Press cure Operation.
  • Work to build and enhance a team approach in addressing and accomplishing departmental goals.
  • Oversee the training of all departmental personnel to assure job knowledge, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), equipment operation, and general safety awareness.
  • Ensure the complete safety of the department, including those individuals working in and around the area (i.e. visitors, contractors)
  • Responsible for achieving standards of quality for every order processed through the department and to strive for continuous improvement and sustained levels of excellence for internal as well as external customers.
  • Monitor production for the purpose of achieving and maintaining the lowest possible scrap rates.
  • Planning and managing improvement activities, whilst communicating current status to relevant stakeholders
  • Control and minimize labor overtime and department expenses.
  • Incorporates shop floor organization and cleanliness for the purpose of establishing an atmosphere of pride and accomplishment.

Other Job Duties

  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills Required

  • B.S. Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related technical field of study.
  • 3 + years' experience in composite parts manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of the following operations: Kit Cutting, lay-up, assembly, bonding and tool prep.
  • Read and comprehend blueprints and both technical and non-technical documents as they relate to contracts, products design, manufacture and test.
  • AS9100 and NADCAP experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in a fast paced and highly competitive environment.
  • Personality and drive to execute in an environment that operates under tight timelines and aggressive schedules.
  • Effective written and interpersonal communication skills. Must be capable of interacting with and conveying concepts within all levels of the organization.
  • Strong academic foundation coupled with hands on experience.

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
