This opportunity provides a hands-on family friendly business and the opportunity to guide the business through growth into the future, through sound accounting and financial practices and systems. The Controller is an advisor to the President, providing advice on all financial matters, oversight of accounting staff duties, managing an exciting mixed portfolio of business entities including manufacturing, real estate, and hospitality, in a family business office setting. The Controller role oversees a staff of 2 accounting professionals and interacts with the General Manager and Inventory Control Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and prepare financial statements for multiple real estate, manufacturing, hospitality, and development entities.
  • Manage the budget process on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Oversight of cash management and ongoing cash flows and projections.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting operational functions, including general journal entries, managing P/L statements.
  • Coordinate the activities of external auditors and external vendor relationships.
  • Manage all hands-on accounting and controller functions on behalf of a privately held family-owned growing group of businesses.
  • Assess and evaluate accounting and internal control systems and provide recommendations for processes and improvements.
  • Develop and monitor business performance metrics. Produce ongoing reports for management review.
  • Oversee regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance.
  • Secure financing for all capital expenditures.
  • Manage banking relations and similar business relationships.
  • Manages and coordinates company human resources functions, to include employee relations, recruitment, and benefits administration.
  • Bottom-line responsibility for department operations.
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the department and/or organization.

Education and/or Experience:                                                                           

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business with an accounting or finance focus
  • 5+ years of successful progressive accounting experience.
  • An equivalent amount of previous education and experience in accounting or as a Controller may be considered.
  • Previous experience as a Controller preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and legislation.
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple different business portfolios.
  • Good knowledge of accounting software; prior experience using QuickBooks is a plus.
  • Attention to detail.
