Position Description: Staff Accountant

Reporting directly to the Head of Accounting & Finance, the Staff Accountant advises C-level and senior managers by forecasting monthly revenue and monitoring operating expenses against annual budgets. The Staff Accountant will use independent discretion and judgement evaluating spending, and approving purchase orders and procurement requests, to manage against allocated budgets. The successful candidate will understand the “bigger picture” and use analytical acumen to consult with team members and communicate financial results and discrepancies. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for month end accounting close, which includes bank and credit card reconciliations, managing accounts receivable, accounts payable and procurement, generating financial statements, and executing ad hoc projects as needed. This position will work directly with internal departments (Business Development, Marketing, Cellular Products, Bioservices, Customer Service) and represent the company with customers, external vendors, and CROs (Contract Research Organizations).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for month end accounting close, including bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Responsible for A/R by generating invoices and contacting customers for outstanding balances.
  • Responsible for A/P by processing invoices. Resolve vendor disputes or discrepancies.
  • Responsible for preparing monthly financial statements.
  • Assisting Customer Service regarding issues relating to contracts, purchase orders, and quotes.
  • Creating purchase orders with external vendors.
  • Processing all internal expense reimbursement requests.
  • Filing monthly and quarterly sales tax filing.
  • Serving as backup support for payroll processing.
  • Ad hoc reporting and projects as requested.

Required:

  • B.S. in Accounting or Finance with 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving aptitude with creative solutions, ability to organize work with large amounts of information efficiently, manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Strong communicator with exceptional verbal and written skills, capable of effectively conveying complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Exercises discretion and tact in handling confidential information and sensitive situations, ensuring professionalism and trustworthiness in all interactions.

Preferred:

  • Experience with QBO accounting systems.
  • Experience with payroll and sales tax.

General:

  • Ability to work onsite from our headquartered office/laboratory location in Alameda, California.
  • Must be able to work Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
  • May require occasional night and/or weekend work.
  • Full time, exempt position not subject to FLSA and California overtime regulations.
  • Starting range for new hires $67-75K. Full position range $67-80K.
