This position is for those with an active Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification, but less than six months of experience as a Medical Assistant. In this role you will provide clinical support, while learning and progressing through clinical MA skills training.
Responsibilities
- Greet and escort patients to the exam room, gather patient history, measure vitals, and document all information in the patient’s medical chart.
- Process patients during check-in and check-out. If necessary, collect insurance and registration information, as well as appointment scheduling.
- Ensure exam rooms are clean and stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, and prepare sterilization as required.
- Maintains patient files, records, and other information in a confidential manner.
- Communicates effectively and courteously with and demonstrates a caring attitude toward patients and family.
- Supporting business operations through administrative projects and tasks at the practice business office.
- Participate in on the job training to develop clinical skills such as:
- Review patient records for past medical problems, medication and immunization status, drug allergies, risk factors, and other pertinent information.
- Interview patients and/or family members for appropriate information and obtain vital statistics indicated for the age, gender, and type of visit.
- Perform laboratory testing and administer vaccines, analgesics, and nebulization treatments in accordance with established standards and office policy.
- Observe, document, and report to provider and nursing staff patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments.
- Complete applicable documentation for the patient visit.
- Conduct basic parent and child education to include anticipatory guidance in accordance with office policy and as delegated by providers and leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA regulations preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to multi-task and perform well in a fast-paced patient care environment.
Scheduling
- Must be available to work a minimum of 24 hours per week.
Requirements
- Active NHA CCMA certification.
- Adherence to Capital Area Pediatrics immunization and testing requirements.
- Clinical experience is preferred, but not required.
