Job Summary
The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for overseeing the procurement of goods and services for Natural Trends. This role involves managing supplier relationships, sourcing new suppliers, negotiating contracts, ensuring timely delivery of products and services, and maintaining cost-
effective purchasing practices. The Purchasing Specialist will work closely with various departments to monitor and forecast inventory needs and ensure the procurement process aligns with the company’s goals and objectives. This includes generating purchase orders and maintaining documentation through completion of the procurement process.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


Develop and Implement Procurement Strategies

  • Create and execute purchasing strategies that align with company objectives.
  • Identify potential suppliers, evaluate their capabilities, and negotiate favorable terms.


Supplier Management

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
  • Monitor and report key functional metrics associated with supplier performance and resolve any issues related to delivery, quality, or cost.
  • Seek and partner with reliable suppliers.


Contract Negotiation

  • Negotiate contracts and agreements to secure advantageous terms.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and company policies.


Cost Management

  • Monitor market trends and assess the impact on product costs.
  • Perform cost analysis to identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Implement measures to reduce expenses.


Inventory Management

  • Determine quantity and timing of deliveries.
  • Collaborate with the sales and production teams to manage stock levels and ensure
    timely replenishment.
  • Implement inventory control systems to minimize waste and optimize stock turnover.
  • Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with the sales, production, logistics, and finance teams to ensure seamless
    operations.
  • Provide purchasing insights and support for new product development and special projects, including materials testing.


Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare regular reports on purchasing activities, supplier performance, and cost savings.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Inventory turn rate by component.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in procurement and negotiation.
  • Proven working experience as a purchasing manager, agent, or officer
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Excellent communication, networking and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management.
  • Proficient in procurement software, QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to gather, analyze data and work with figures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Solid judgement and decision-making skills.


Highly Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Professional certification such as CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional)
  • Experience in the promotional products industry


Compensation

  • $20/hr starting
  • $21/hr after a successful introductory period.
  • $1,000 sign-on bonus at the successful completion of 90 days introductory period.
