The Opportunity


Actuaries on the Pricing & Risk Analytics Team are responsible for pricing new reinsurance opportunities, managing the profitability of existing deals, and seeking opportunities to improve returns on a risk-adjusted basis. We’re seeking talented, highly collaborative actuaries who are passionate about using their technical superpowers to deliver outstanding solutions in a fast-paced environment.


This role will report to our lead PRT Actuary and offers a fantastic opportunity that combines traditional actuarial pricing and model development with hands-on predictive modeling. We are specifically seeking individuals who are passionate about the R programming language who want to advance their technical skills to the next level.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the actuarial analysis of Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) cases including, but not limited to:
    • Reviewing plan features
    • Analyzing Mortality Experience Data 
    • Setting actuarial assumptions using both machine learning and traditional techniques
    • Maintaining projection models
    • Running projections
    • Process automation
    • Pricing recommendations
  • Produce detailed written reports for management summarizing case features, risks, plan experience, and justification for key actuarial assumptions.
  • Ensure models and assumptions are robust through adherence to Martello Re’s peer review processes and completion of model reconciliations with counterparties.
  • Track historical case metrics and assist with the management of key data assets.
  • Assist with periodic assumption unlocks by performing experience studies, working with industry experience data, and recommending sound assumptions supported by data.
  • Implement improvements to pricing and projection models while adhering to the company’s change management standards.


Qualifications

  • Prior direct experience with PRT pricing, actuarial modeling, and assumption setting is preferred, but not strictly required.
  • Attainment or nearing attainment of the Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation including testing in life contingencies and predictive analytics.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from a 4-year college or university
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Technical Skills

  • A strong understanding of the R programming language with experience in predictive modeling, data analytics, and data visualization.
  • Experience with Git is desired, but not required.
  • Microsoft Office – Excel (advanced), Word, and PowerPoint.


Location and Travel

  • Preferred locations: Charlotte, NC, Bermuda, or Eastern US time zone
  • Remote employees are expected to travel to Charlotte approximately once per month for 2-3 business days, or more frequently as determined by business needs.
