Job DescriptionJob Description

As a Senior Cost Accountant, you will be responsible for transactions impacting the inventory subledger as well as managing and monitoring inventory costing and related methods. The ideal candidate will have strong understanding of inventory valuation methods and ability to reconcile and research inventory changes and variances. This role will directly interact with companies supply chain, production, accounting, and finance departments.

What you’ll do:

  • Assist with monthly close process for inventory modules, including preparing various inventory and cost related journal entries and completing corresponding account reconciliations
  • Monitor and establish additional controls as needed to ensure the accuracy of the ERP inventory subledger and other source systems
  • Monitor purchase price variances and provide fluctuation analysis
  • Report on purchase price variances, partnering with the finance and accounting departments on product profitability reporting.
  • Work with production and supply chain to explain and resolve purchase price variances, including establishing criteria for changes to standard cost.
  • Assist in the review and reporting of physical/cycle count processes and procedures.
  • Analyze inventory for potential excess and obsolete reserves and make related entries in accordance with the company’s policies
  • Review standard costs and maintain periodic Bill of Materials cost updates
  • Assist in costing review for new product set ups, including analyzing standard costs for updates
  • Work with external auditors by providing audit/review support and analysis as it relates to costing and inventory
  • Exercise integrity and confidentiality in financial reporting
  • Support other accounting and finance projects as needed

Required qualifications:

At least 5 years of relevant Finance experience to include:

  • 5+ year’s work experience in inventory and cost accounting with demonstrated levels of advancement
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office required
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills are a must
  • Strong analytical skills – Advanced analysis and excel skills, and familiarity using and extracting data from various systems
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of inventory related functions, standard cost methodology and US GAAP
  • Flexible team player that enjoys hands-on responsibilities, with an ability to be proactive and a self-starter.
  • Experience with SAP a plus

Physical Requirements: Long periods of sitting, computer work, some walking, some standing.
