The Archdiocese of New York Office of Early Childhood Education (OEC) Instructional Associate

The position of Early Childhood Instructional Associate is a leadership position within the Office of Early Childhood (OEC) of the Archdiocese of NY. The person in this position works collaboratively with other members of the team to provide programmatic, health, safety, and contractual guidance and support for early childhood programs within the Archdiocese of NY. The Associate will serve as the main instructional liaison between the ADNY schools and the Early Childhood Division of the NYC Public Schools (NYCPS). This position is a direct report to the Associate Superintendent for Early Childhood Education (ECE).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • NYC (PreKforAll/3KforAll) Program Coordination:
    • Coordinate and assist with the oversight of the ADNY team of early childhood instructional specialists and social workers in NYC as they support schools to provide high quality early childhood programming within the Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of New York.
    • Schedule and chair regular meetings with the ADNY Office of Early Childhood instructional specialist and social worker teams.
    • Support site-based NYC Early Childhood leaders, teachers, and staff with access to Creative Curriculum/TSG, developmental screenings, and other operational tools as communicated by the NYCPS.
    • Guide and support site-based leadership with identifying, vetting, and hiring of high-quality eligible teachers and staff.
    • Guide and support site-based leadership with preparation for program evaluations as scheduled by the NYCPS Quality Program Support Division.
  • Curriculum Implementation Support
    • Participate in all ADNY and NYCPS professional development activities, both virtually and in-person, that relate to the implementation of high-quality early childhood programming in ADNY schools.
    • Review, synthesize, annotate and turnkey correspondence from NYCPS and NYS Office of Early Learning and regularly turnkey notifications to the site-based leadership and staff.
    • Manage and curate the Early Childhood (EC) page on the ADNY Teaching & Learning Resource Hub with updated news, links, and content across a wide team of stakeholders.
    • Create and present virtual and in-person professional development sessions for EC Directors working in the schools.
  • Assessment and Data Analysis
    • Analyze program assessment data to identify successful strategies, high- performing staff and model programs within our system.
    • Use individual and system-wide feedback from instructional specialists and data from program assessments and the annual family survey to plan for continuous improvement.
  • Administrative Duties
    • Assist the Associate Superintendent for ECE in providing guidance and training for the NYC Department of Health Article 43 health/safety codes to all NYC ADNY schools.
    • Work closely with the EC Assistant for Operations and OEC Administrative Assistant in tracking instructional and operational data that pertains to UPK programs.
    • Work collaboratively with counterparts in the Office of Teaching and Learning and the regions of the ADNY to align instructional goals and practices for Prekindergarten through grade 2.
    • Maintain internal and external communication regarding curricular resources and professional development opportunities via the monthly Early Childhood newsletter.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to plan and manage projects and prepare and maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge of best instructional practice and curriculum design for early childhood grades
  • Ability to prioritize workflow and demonstrate excellent time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Google Suite
  • Willingness to be trained/take courses in new technology as needed
  • Ability to travel within the regions of the Archdiocese of New York

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in early childhood education required
  • NYS B-2 teaching certification preferred
  • At least three (3) years successful teaching experience in an early childhood classroom required
  • Two years of leadership experience in a school setting preferred

Location: Based in the office of the Superintendent of Schools, Archdiocese of NY. Site visits to schools in the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island will be required.
