Position Summary

The Water Truck Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the Water Truck and other assigned vehicles. This role includes providing supplemental watering of landscape plants and turf on landscaping sites throughout the Madison area. The Water Truck Operator ensures the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle while maintaining a focus on customer service and adherence to company policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Watering Operations: Operate the water truck to visit various work sites and water plant materials and turf as needed.
  • Vehicle Operation and Maintenance: Operate and maintain the assigned vehicle(s) with a focus on safety and customer courtesy. Perform minor maintenance tasks as required.
  • Defensive Driving: Maintain defensive driving techniques to ensure safety on the road and at job sites.
  • Vehicle Cleanliness: Keep the assigned vehicle(s) clean both inside and outside, ensuring a professional appearance.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including trip sheets, vehicle maintenance logs, fuel purchases, incident and accident reports, vehicle condition reports, and any other documentation requested by management.
  • Fueling: Ensure the assigned vehicle(s) are properly fueled.
  • Role Model: Serve as a positive role model for the company, demonstrating professionalism and courtesy in all interactions.
  • Physical Tasks: Perform tasks that may require lifting up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Teamwork: Assist with other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
  • Snow Removal: Participate in snow removal duties during the winter months as business needs dictate.

Experience and Education

  • Driver's License: Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • CDL: A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred but not required.
  • Self-Starter: Must be a self-starter with a strong work ethic and a flexible schedule.
  • Manual Transmission: Ability to drive a manual transmission is preferred but not required.
  • Local Knowledge: Familiarity with the Madison/Dane County area is helpful.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Overtime and Flexibility: Availability to work overtime and flexible hours as needed.
  • Independent Work: Ability to work unsupervised and follow directions.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work well with others.
  • Snow Removal: Availability for snow removal during winter months is required.

Job Specifications

  • Position Type: Full-time Seasonal and Part-time Seasonal positions are available.
  • Work Hours (Full-Time): Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm (40-55 hours per week) during the peak season (approximately April to November). Saturday hours as needed.
  • Work Hours (Part-Time): Part-time employees work 20-25 hours per week during the peak season.
  • Winter Hours: Hours vary during the winter months (approximately December through March) based on snow removal needs.
  • Overtime: Overtime may be required as workload dictates.
