Job Summary:

The Forensic Assertive Community Treatment FACT team is hiring a Criminal Justice Specialist, a mental health clinician who engages with clients in the community to offer treatment and services adhering to the ACT model. As a Criminal Justice Specialist, you will be responsible for providing engagement services, psychoeducation, and advocacy for clients within the criminal legal system. This includes tasks such as court updates, coordinating care during incarceration, and providing advocacy letters to defense attorneys. The role requires a flexible and adaptable approach, as FACT staff members are both generalists and specialists, drawing on their areas of experience and interest to provide comprehensive clinical services.

Shift Hours: Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Location Address: 151 Lawrence St, Brooklyn, NY 11201. Our office is easily accessible by public transportation.


Workplace Flexibility:

This position is Flexible: This position has flexible work flexibility where for which staff have flexibility to complete their workday from home or another suitable space, typically after reporting to the office and/or engaging in field or community-based work.

Salary: The salary for this role is $65,000 per year.


What you will be doing:

  • Provide at least 80 percent of treatment contacts in the community and complete expected minimum monthly treatment contacts, including leading groups when clinically indicated.
  • Attend and participate in daily team meetings to discuss clients’ clinical and case management issues and needs.
  • Complete documentations required by the NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH) and NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s (DOHMH) licensing guidelines, NYS Medicaid billing guidelines as well as per CASES ACT Policy and Procedures.
  • Liaise with other stakeholders who are involved in clients’ justice involvement (e.g. Correctional Health Services, defense attorney, judge, court diversion programs, etc) to advocate for client care and services.
  • Collaborate with client’s support network and other service providers on treatment planning, service coordination, and case management support with the goal of promoting client’s recovery and stability in the community.
  • Provide clinical services that are anti-racist, gender-responsive, culturally humble, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, client-centered, and evidence-based.
  • Complete required documentations and toxicology tests for clients with active Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) order.
  • Provide 24-hour crisis intervention on-call services on rotating basis.
  • Provide culturally competent services in accordance with CASES policies and practice.

What we are looking for:

  • LMHC, MHC-LP, LMSW, LCSW, with current New York State license.
  • Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, and/or co-occurring substance use disorders.
  • Experience with various evidence-based models pertaining to treatment of substance use, and mental illness.
  • A team player, highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Proficient in computers.
  • Individuals with lived experience are encouraged to apply.

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience working with individuals involved in criminal legal system preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
