New York, New York, United States Center for Justice Innovation Full time
Job Overview

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The Center for Justice Innovation is a non-profit entity dedicated to collaborating with communities and justice systems to promote fairness, enhance safety, and empower individuals and communities. The Center aims to identify and address the challenges that lead individuals into the criminal and civil legal systems as early as possible. This is achieved through various initiatives—developing and implementing programs that minimize the need for incarceration and improve economic opportunities, conducting original research to ascertain effective practices, and disseminating insights gained from our programs and research to those seeking to reform the justice system globally.

The Center operates with a workforce of 900 employees and an annual budget of $100 million, achieving its mission through three core pillars: creating and scaling operational programs to test innovative ideas and address challenges, conducting original research to evaluate effective practices, and offering expert assistance and policy guidance to justice reform advocates worldwide.

Operational Programs

The Center's operational programs, including the renowned Red Hook Community Justice Center and Midtown Community Justice Center, are designed to test innovative concepts, tackle complex issues, and strive for systemic transformation within the justice framework. Our initiatives encompass community-based violence prevention, alternatives to incarceration, reentry programs, and court-based strategies aimed at reducing unnecessary incarceration while fostering positive changes for individuals and families. Through these efforts, we have achieved measurable outcomes such as enhanced public safety, decreased incarceration rates, and improved community perceptions of justice.

Research Initiatives

The Center's research teams comprise social scientists, data analysts, and legal professionals who are either academically trained or possess lived experiences. They conduct research both domestically and internationally on a variety of issues related to the criminal-legal system and justice. Their work includes evaluating programs and policies, undertaking exploratory community-based studies, and providing research translation and strategic planning for system stakeholders. The Center has published studies on diverse topics, including court and jail reform, intimate partner violence, restorative justice, gun violence, reentry, sixth amendment rights, and progressive prosecution. The research teams aim to ensure their findings are meaningful and actionable for the communities they serve, as well as for policymakers and practitioners.

Policy & Expert Guidance

The Center offers practical planning and implementation support to various jurisdictions in reform areas such as problem-solving courts (e.g., community courts, treatment courts, domestic violence courts), tribal justice, and strategies for reducing incarceration and crime. Our expert assistance encompasses data analysis, strategic planning, policy guidance, and hosting site visits to our operational programs.

Support Services

A dedicated support team within the Center ensures the seamless operation of various functions, including finance, legal, technology, human resources, fundraising, real estate, and communications. Comprising 15% of the organization's workforce, these teams provide essential infrastructure support and innovative solutions that align with the Center's mission and values.

THE ROLE

  • Support the payroll department in reviewing the annual W-2 checklist;
  • Participate in new hire orientation by conducting payroll training sessions;
  • Complete special projects as assigned by the Payroll Manager;
  • Perform additional relevant tasks as needed.
