About the Role

The Senior Director, Institutional Giving is the senior development professional responsible for maximizing unrestricted, temporarily restricted and permanently restricted revenue from foundations and government entities for the U.S. Soccer Foundation in order to realize the mission, vision, and strategic imperatives of the organization. The Senior Director manages the Director, Grants and is responsible for the development and execution of the overall strategy and plan for the institutional gift development effort. Included in this strategy is a plan/program for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for every potential source of contributed revenue, specifically focused on foundations and government funding opportunities.

 

About the Team

At the U.S. Soccer Foundation, the Revenue Group includes development, marketing, and communications functions, driving innovation and outreach across multiple channels, maximizing impact, and achieving significant, sustained revenue and brand growth. The Revenue Group supports the mission and vision of the organization through the engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors, corporate partners, public agencies, and foundations and seeks to advance the organization’s visibility.


Responsibilities

  • Generates revenues of $5M annually for U.S. Soccer Foundation programs through timely submission of well-researched, well written and well-documented grant proposals – with an emphasis on grants that support the Foundation’s evidenced based programs.
  • Provide leadership, strategy, and direction for all Foundation and Government fundraising activities, with collaboration of Director of Grants.
  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits and/or stewards all institutional donors – codesigning proven programmatic solutions.
  • Responsible for the achievement of approved revenue goals for public health foundations, private foundations and government sources and the management and control of related expenses.
  • Comprehensively manage the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s foundation and government development programs in collaboration with the Development Team leadership.
  • Prospect and solicit general operating, project, in-kind, and capital support for U.S. Soccer Foundation programs and initiatives.
  • Supervise and collaborate on the development of proposals, applications, and reports to Foundations and Government entities.
  • Interact with and involve Foundation Leadership in solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship process.
  • Initiate and arrange an established goal of face-to-face contacts and solicitations.
  • Serves as a senior leader of the Development team and works closely and collaboratively with other departmental leadership to ensure cohesiveness within the Department.
  • Support and advance the goals, mission, and culture of the U.S. Soccer Foundation


About You:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience with at least 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in public health programmatic fundraising
  • Prefer at least 10 years of experience in direct revenue generation and fundraising from foundations and corporate sources.
  • Demonstrated track record prospecting, securing and managing new and existing institutional funders.
  • Proven ability to shape the department's vision and strategy and execute against that strategy.
  • Self-motivated team player with a proven ability to manage and attain aggressive individual and team sales goals.
  • Possess superior negotiation skills coupled with a net profit bottom-line mentality.
  • Exceptional and persuasive written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively interface with and influence senior-level executives with tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a creative and resourceful problem solver; able to balance the tension between partner expectations and organizational capabilities, strategies, and results.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Committed to bettering the lives of children though sports-based youth development.
  • Committed to working on a diverse team and helping build a culture of inclusion internally and externally.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of schedule, inclusive of weekend and posible holiday travel.
