Key Responsibilities:

  • Department Building: Establish and lead the Data Science department from the ground up, developing strategies, goals, and operational frameworks.
  • Leadership: Act as a people leader, mentoring and managing a team of data scientists and analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize statistical programming languages (R, Python, Julia) and SQL to analyze data, uncover insights, and drive decision-making.
  • Data Engineering: Leverage data engineering tools such as dbt, Spark, and Snowflake to manage and process large datasets effectively.
  • Innovation: Continuously seek out new ideas and data sources, applying a data-driven, hypothesis-based approach to solve ambiguous problems.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, and Marketing, to integrate data science solutions into the Benjamin platform.
  • Reporting: Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to communicate insights and performance metrics to stakeholders.
 

Qualifications

  • Experience:  7+ years of experience in data science, with a proven track record of building and scaling data science teams, ideally within a mobile app startup environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in statistical programming languages (R, Python, Julia), SQL, and data engineering tools (dbt, Spark, Snowflake, BigQuery, LookerStudio).
  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Education: Advanced degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Problem-Solving: Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a data-driven mindset.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
