JOB DESCRIPTION: This position requires a motivated, highly creative, detail-oriented and organized individual to create, plan, orchestrate and operate a range of programs for the Pocket Museum/Alley and Saenger Theater. This position will support the organizers and leaders of these two attractions by taking on full operation of existing outreach elements as well as creating new activities and programs to expand the brand recognition of the HCC’s downtown attractions.

DEPARTMENT: Pocket Museum/Alley and Saenger Theater

LOCATION: Primarily stationed within Saenger Theater Complex, but work requires travel to all Hattiesburg Convention Commission facilities. Additional travel may also be required.

SHIFT: Full-time (Hourly): Varies widely including weekdays, weekends, as well as nights and holidays as programming and operations oversight requires. The position will be divided equally into two 20-hour segments with variance in a given week upon specific agreement between Museum Coordinator and Saenger Theater Manager.

SUMMARY: The Programs Coordinator will develop, oversee, operate and expand opportunities for non-traditional public interaction and special events utilizing the HCC’s Downtown attractions (specifically the Pocket Museum/Alley and Saenger Theater). Non-technical support of the Saenger Theater’s event operations will be needed to assist the Theater and balance the weekly work schedule.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pocket Alley and Museum

  • Collection Management: Assist in maintaining the museum's collection of artifacts, artworks, diorama materials and other related items.
  • Exhibition Development: Collaborate with curator to research, plan, develop, solicit and create exhibitions that align with the museum's mission and appeal to diverse audiences.
  • Research: Conduct research on potential exhibitions including their cultural significance and attractiveness to a broad audience.
  • Programs: Participate in identifying, creating, planning and executing a variety of direct, seasonal thematic, and partnered programs offering education, entertainment, and economic impact.
  • Public Engagement: Engage with museum and alley visitors, providing tours and ad hoc lectures about exhibits, alley artworks, history of the project as well as, leading certain alley special events and activities. Actively recruit tours to Alley such as field trips, senior groups, etc.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with administrative tasks related to exhibitions, acquisitions, alley development, dioramas and alley artwork.
  • Creative Work: Develop new dioramas, exhibits, public engagement through signage, new alley assets, events, seasonal décor creation and installation, event design and planning.

Saenger Theater

  • Public Engagement: Prepare and open theater on set schedule to engage with visitors, providing tours and ad hoc lectures about the theater’s history, unique elements, legends and stories, as well as leading certain theater special events and activities. Actively recruit tours to Saenger such as field trips, senior groups, etc.
  • Exhibition Development: Coordinate organ players and organize schedule of practices to coincide with public access. Identify, develop and coordinate gallery exhibitions. Develop other special event opportunities including community events.
  • Creative Work: Develop and assist with window painting, digital signage and other supplemental creative work.
  • Administrative Support: Update and maintain Saenger email lists, answer phones as available, reply to social media and e-mail inquiries. Become knowledgeable about Box Office operations and be able to assist in ticketing, will call and other related needs. Be willing and able to assist with broad-based theater operations as needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Work Experience

  • Degree in marketing, communications, arts, theater operations, and/or related degree with appropriate amount of experience in the above.

  • Valid Driver’s License and must meet HCC insurance eligibility requirements to drive while conducting company business.
  • Must have transportation for required travel.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
