JOB DESCRIPTION: Social Media & Communication Specialist –Sixth Street Museum District

DEPARTMENT: Marketing

LOCATION: Primarily located at the Lake Terrace Convention Center but work will require transit to the Sixth Street Museum District and other Hattiesburg Convention Commission attractions and project sites. Additional travel to other locations may also be required.

SHIFT: Full-Time, with extensive on-site weekend hours.

REPORTS TO: Creative and Digital Media Supervisor with the daily operational oversight by the Museums Director

SUMMARY: The role of the Social Media & Communication Specialist is to attract and interact with targeted virtual communities with the goal of growing followers and guest-engagement within the Hattiesburg Convention Commission’s Museums Facebook, Instagram and TikTok platforms. The Social Media & Communication Specialist is responsible for pro-active planning, creative, development and implementation of social media content, strategies, events and activities that leverage existing efforts, and for developing new concepts and fresh approaches to messaging and content that meet and exceed social media trends.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the Marketing Department and Museums leadership to discuss and define marketing objectives, goals and programs on an ongoing, and project basis.
  • Innovate and create daily content (photos, video, graphics, messaging) with the approval of the marketing department designee and sign-off of conceptual projects of the appropriate facility leadership.
  • Creates daily content, innovates, engages with guests in order to make posts and increase followers, and expand social media exposure of both attractions.
  • Monitors posts and responds in a timely manner with the guidance/general approval of the same leadership.
  • Ensure correct spelling, sentence structure, use of emojis, punctuation and grammar prior to making any posting.
  • Create and execute social media content that educates, informs, entertains, engages and increases targeted audiences through all designated social media platforms.
  • Identify new and emerging social media trends, and shifts social media and communication efforts to maintain and exceed relevance in the marketplace.
  • Track and analyze social media metrics and KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and make data-driven recommendations for optimization.
  • Monitor growth of audiences and audience engagement and evaluate performance of posts on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Creates organized, structured ongoing online repository (library) of videos, photographs and other digital media for rapid retrieval by Marketing Department staff.
  • Leverage current and new technology to enhance social media & communication outreach effort.
  • Monitor similar and aspirational attractions to maintain and grow knowledge of new and successful practices that can be implemented in HCC social media & communication.
  • Such other duties, functions and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Work Experience

  • Individual with a BS or BA or working toward their BS or BA in communications, marketing, business, digital strategies or a related field.
  • Thorough experience with social media, creative writing and online content development.

  • Have and exhibit high-energy, dynamic, outgoing, engaging personality in person and in all social media productions.
  • Must have an extroverted personality, able to engage with wide-range of personalities found in the staff and guests of these attractions.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation, and related management tools.
  • Strong written verbal communication skills with keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment including substantial work on weekends.
  • Eagerness to learn and grown in the field of social media marketing.
  • Must retain a valid Driver’s License, have transportation for required travel, and meet the eligibility requirements to drive while conducting company business.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent writing, editing, presentation and communication skills with a storyteller’s perspective.
  • Organized, self-motivated, creative, detail oriented, strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude.
  • Proficiency in graphic design and video editing software is desirable but not required.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to generate engaging content ideas.
  • Responds well under pressure.
  • Ability to anticipate and effectively manage a significantly large number of details with concurrent and overlapping deadlines.
  • Ability to learn and execute brand standards.
  • Experience with content creation and execution with strong knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Photography, videography and editing skills are required.
  • This opportunity requires long periods of standing, crouching, kneeling, lifting, and walking.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to weather conditions and the noise level is variable.
