The University of Southern Mississippi is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure-track faculty role within the Nurse Anesthesia Program.
Position Overview
This role is located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, within the Division of Leadership and Advanced Nursing Practice. The faculty member will be responsible for delivering high-quality education to graduate nursing students and contributing to the overall success of the nursing programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and instruct graduate-level courses.
- Actively participate in the development of both graduate and undergraduate nursing curricula.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to nurse anesthesia students.
- Oversee practical training for students in simulation environments.
- Create and update course materials, including syllabi and lesson plans.
- Uphold the academic standards of the University.
- Demonstrate a commitment to educating future anesthesia professionals.
- Support the program's clinical coordinator with student logistics and administrative tasks.
- Manage inventory and ordering of simulation supplies.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field, along with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in nursing. A minimum of four years of clinical experience as a certified registered nurse anesthetist and one to two years of teaching experience in a nurse anesthesia program is required.
Applicants should hold or be eligible for an unencumbered nursing license and advanced practice certification in Mississippi, and must meet the requirements of affiliated clinical agencies. Current certifications in ACLS, PALS, and BLS are also necessary.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficient in using standard office software and educational platforms.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to mentor and support students in their academic journey.
- Competence in problem-solving and critical thinking.
Preference will be given to candidates with three or more years of experience in nurse anesthesia education.
