POSITION SUMMARY

The Process Technician-Injection Molding is a key plant position responsible for the programming (mold/machine start-ups) and troubleshooting our various Injection Molding machines. These machines run a key product line for Petmate and this role requires a sense of urgency and problem-solving experience. Must always maintain product quality from the machines. Engage the right internal and external resources as needed. Focusing on bringing solutions to manufacturing that improve machine and product quality. This role interacts with all plant leadership and key technical personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Deep troubleshooting and programming knowledge in the following areas:

-Mold and Machine Start up and Calibration

-Machine mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, drives and relays.

-Preparing machine for color and/or mold changes.

-Sets machine controls to regulate molding temperature, volume, pressure, and time, according to knowledge of plastics and molding procedures.

1) Daily PM’s on molds.

2) Daily PM’s on injection mold machines.

3) Maintain standard cycle times, standard cavitation and part quality.

4) Relentless effort to reduce downtime, scrap and increase overall efficiency of machines.

5) Observes machine operation to eliminate production of defective parts and products. If a change to the process parameters is needed to maintain part quality, communicate those changes to Engineering.

6) Collect and analyze data to determine root cause and develop long term solutions using the 5 WHY process tool.

7) Responsible for housekeeping and 5S around the machines.

8) Strong knowledge of how an injection molding machine and the mold function.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

1) Minimum of 3 years of experience troubleshooting and programming with injection mold machines.

2) Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate issues involving machines or programming of machines.

3) Strong troubleshooting electro-mechanical skills sets either through experience or formalized education.

4) Must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs. and stand for an entire shift.

5) Sense of urgency and commitment when machines are down.

6) Commitment to quality performance and products and able to maintain production standards.

7) Experience working with minimal supervision and a self-starter who is highly motivated.

8) Must be able to read, write and speak English with good communication skills

9) Must have normal color vision.

10) High mathematical aptitude.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, or crawl. Employee is frequently exposed to extreme temperatures in warehouse environment. Frequently exposed to conditions typically found in a manufacturing plant: noise, dust, heat, and chemicals.
