The Technology Specialist assists Missouri public libraries by providing website training and advising on topics related to technology, both current and emerging. The Technology Specialist assists with administration of LSTA grants and plans technology-related continuing education opportunities for libraries' staff and board. Works under the direction of the REAL and Resource Sharing Consultant.
Job Functions and/or General Responsibilities:
- Assists libraries with the PLOUD project that provides websites for small libraries. Works with libraries on creating a website by training staff on the use of the Ploud software, communicating with vendors, and creating resource guides.
- Advises libraries on a broad range of issues involving technology including, but not limited to, computer networks, AI, website design, digitization, makerspaces, and standards and best practices for emerging technologies.
- Assists in the review of LSTA grants for digitization and technology. Promotes grant opportunities to libraries by attending regional meetings and online webinars.
- Develops training for libraries on technology topics. Training may be conducted in multiple formats, including contracting with other entities for delivery.
- Maintains Library Development's digital assets, both current and archived, on platforms that allow for access by library staff and board of directors.
- Assists the REAL and Resource Sharing Consultant and State Librarian with short- and long-range planning and preparation of strategies and tactical plans for State Library and library service statewide.
- Assists with other Library Development projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written manner.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and develop appropriate project timelines.
- Ability to work as an effective member of Library Development and SOS Office team.
- Ability to develop and make presentations in small and larger group settings.
- Working knowledge of library technology.
- Ability to travel as needed for onsite training or program presentation.
Qualifications:
A master's degree in Library and Information Science or an equivalent degree is preferred; an undergraduate degree and additional professional experience in the areas of library technology may be substituted for the master's degree. One to three years' experience with technical support in the areas of public access computers, makerspaces, digitization, or other library technology, preferably in a public library.
