Our client, an established manfucturer, is looking for a detail-oriented Sales Engineer to join their team. As a Sales Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting sales and program management efforts by providing expertise in quoting, manufacturing feasibility, program launch, quality planning, and product quality management.

The ideal candidate will have basic engineering skills, a strong understanding of manufacturing capabilities, and the ability to read blueprints and use CAD software as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Quoting and Manufacturing Feasibility:
  • Collaborate with the sales team to generate accurate and timely quotes for new programs and parts.
  • Evaluate manufacturing feasibility for new programs and parts, considering factors such as material availability, production processes, and capacity constraints.
Program Launch and Management:
  • Lead the planning and execution of program launches, including coordinating cross-functional teams and managing project timelines.
  • Monitor program progress and identify potential risks or issues that may impact program success.
Quality Planning for Program Launch:
  • Develop and implement quality planning processes for program launches, including conducting quality reviews and developing quality documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and customer requirements throughout the program launch process.
Product Quality Management:
  • Lead the implementation of quality management processes, including Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Control Plans.
  • Conduct regular quality audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
Program Profitability Analysis:
  • Determine program profitability and margin necessary to achieve profitability targets.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to develop pricing strategies and cost models to support program profitability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field. Mechanical engineering preferred.
  2. Experience in a sales or engineering role within the automotive industry, preferably with a Tier 2 automotive supplier.
  3. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and capabilities, particularly related to tubing fabrication.
  4. Proficiency in reading blueprints and using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  5. Knowledge of quality management tools and methodologies, including PPAP, FMEA, and Control Plans.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers.
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address complex issues.
  8. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Information:

  • This is a full-time position based at their greater Detroit headquarters.
  • Some travel may be required occasionally to visit customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
